What would you expect a 12 month old to be able to do?

My mum - sigh - is worried that DS isn't walking or talking yet beyond the occasional no/bye-bye. Ds babbles, crawls, sits and cruises, and pulls up, and walks with a walker, just not unaided. Apparently I was a lot more advanced at talking when I was his age.

Please reassure me that I shouldn't be even worrying about worrying until at least 18 months!

All babies vary in their development. My ds1 was walking at 9 months and had his first pair of outdoor shoes at 10 months. ds3 however was 15 months before he walked. Don't let others, family members or not make you feel inadequate about your childrens' progress, they will do it when they are ready and not before!

MTS ds is 12 months 2 weeks, he has been walking for 6 weeks but none of his peers at postnatal group etc are doing that yet, they are all crawling / cruising, so he is early, imo.

He can say "Oiy" which means Mummy and "Doy" is Daddy, kisssss means keys, and that's about it!!!!! The rest is unintelligible babble.

I am not worried.

Your ds sounds absolutely fine!

I was alledgedly potty trained by 9 months old. However I can distinctly remember being chased around by my mother trying to put nappy cream on me, and I was shouting "No cream, no cream!" So I must have been at least 2!

ds1 walked and talked at 11 months
ds2 walked at 15 months, is 19 months old now and only says a handful of barely recognisable words (bye-bye,dada, ba (ball) and gar (garden)) My two sons are so different - as are all kids.
Your son sounds fine!!!!

I was a lot more advanced than ds2 in my development at this age too - doesn't mean anything!!!!

ds1 walked at 7 months but at 3yrs just started really talking, ds2 walked at 13months and already has some few words which ds1 didn't have at that age, they are just so different. Your child I believe is developing just fine.
