Hi ,am not really sure i want to post this or think about this, but its been on my mind for a few weeks.

I have 25 wk twin girls, Twin 2 is really strong on her legs, and try to stand, holds on to her toes etc, twin 1 however, the biiger twin isn't really weight bearing much is comparison, she'll wiggle them a bit, but isn't anywhere near as strong. The thing that worries me especially is in the bath, they go in those support seats where they lie down, Twin 2 splashes away with gusto, Twin 1 just pull her legs up and gets quite rigid, only in this past few weeks has she actiually tolerated the bath at all, befor that would scream blue murder, so perhaps is tense. I am really worried about Cerebal Palsey?? my friends little boy, now 8 has it, and she talks about muscle tone a lot!! Twin 1 was born with a very serious heart condition TGA - tranposition of the great vessels, where her two main arteries were the wrong way round, she had surgery at 12 hrs and 1 week old, and was in hospital for 3 wks, so am always watching out for signs of anything being wrong with her.

This is the worst bit about having twins!!! - comparing them constantly. Have consultant appt 7th Jan so will ask then. Too scared to google!!

Sorry for the waffle

I'm no great expert bt I think its too early to know about CP.

DS was a 26 week premmie weighing 2lbs and he didn't weightbear until he was 11 months I was told he had about 20% chance of mild to moderate cp. He also hated baths for a long time. He's three now and other than being a little small there is nothing wrong with him at all.

Obviously 'm not saying there is or isn;t anything wrong with your DD but I'm just saying what you describe might indicate absltely nothing at all...

Thankyou Kew

I know its early days, but tbh, sometimes i just can't believe that we could be so lucky - she came through Major Open Heart surgery so well, surprised everyone and is now so happy. Guess I'm a glass half empty kind of person.

26 wks?? gosh bet that was terrifying for you. Good weight though for that gestation..... i think??

Given what you've been through I would say it's natural to worry a lot, but I wouldn't worry too much yet.

DS4 wasn't really weight bearing at 26 weeks (its not Cp we're bothred about but we have 2 asd kids so worried he wasn't interested anyway). cranial osteopathy seemed to help if thats an option?

outinthesticksmummy · 21/12/2008 23:19

interseting about Craniel Osteopath?? Took Twin 2 when she was little and helped settle her loads. Expensive though, but if it helps??

outinthesticks... 26 week premmie would no doubt have been terrifying had I been there....

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 21/12/2008 23:20

(DS was adopted )

outinthesticksmummy · 21/12/2008 23:23

no need to be sorry - no reason you should know

Yes he is an only. I read quite a bit about CP as hisextreme prematurity made him much higher risk of it and becasue at 11 months he couldn't weight bear and couldn't sit up unsupported it made the risk even higher. Spending his first year in an orphange didn;t help either.

I know this isn't any help beacuase I worried over him incessantly but don;t waste the arly months by looking for things which you can;t tellyet. Mention your concerns to the paed when you next see him then try to enjoy the "differentness" of your twins.

Will mention it, thanks, and will enjoy as it goes too fast!!

Have a wonderful Christmas with you special little boy

Dd1 (full term) wasn't weight bearing by 12 months. However, she was walking by 16 months and is absolutely fine now.
I think 26 weeks is a bit soon to worry.

My DD difn't weightbear till around 18 months...she was a bum shuffler. Don't worry!
