I know he's only 5, 1st term at school and tired etc but it's getting into a pattern.

Staggers out of the gate and today he was rude with it so he's been sent to his bedroom until tea.

Is there a better way of dealing with it?

feed him immediately, tis often the blood sugars that contributes to the foulness

agree drink and snack (MY DS (7) has milk and a biscuit) as soon as walk thorugh the door

deanychip · 15/12/2008 16:19

hmm, mine is like this.

difficult because you know they are tired but its still unacceptable and rude isnt it.

I tell him before he goes into school what i have planned for when i pick him up.

So for eg... tonight mummy will pick you up, we will go home switch on the xmas tree lights, snuggle on the sofa, have a drink of milk and a biscuit.

Then when i pic him up i dont allow the bad temper but just launch into the plans from the morning..

Come on come on, lets go and put the xmas lights on...do you want a chocolate bicky or a plain one?...keep the banter going...tneds to work mostly..otherwise, i tell him no Tv unless he appologises because it makes me feel sad when he is rude.

Food, definitely. Take a snack to school and give it to him as soon as he emerges. Mine were like this, still are sometimes and they're almost 8.

I mean breadsticks & fruit in the playground!

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 15/12/2008 16:19

I agree with SleighGirl. My neighbor's daughter is always on the edge of tears when she gets home. The least thing sets her off. I have learned to give the children snacks as soon as they get in the door when she comes over to play.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 15/12/2008 16:20

I also agree with a snack! Feed him as soon as he steps out of school and then don't talk to him for a bit (or at least don't ask him how is day was etc)

ShauntheSheep · 15/12/2008 16:21

Food straight away. Somethign godo and nutrious to raise blood sugars. sandwich/crackers and milk or something like that is best I think.

MilaMae · 15/12/2008 16:25

Thanks for that will wave biscuits in the air as he comes through the gate. I hadn't thought of sugar levels, I'm pretty cranky myself when my levels get too low.

As Deany said it's hard as although I understand being rude isn't on. I've looked forward to him all day and just had to give him a rollicking for rudeness

My dss were just the same. A biscuit helps a bit, but carbohydrates are much more effective - crumpets, sandwiches or even an early tea - we ate at 4.30 for a while !!! They are different children afterwards.
