We had this with DD. Various causes IIRC, including: teeth, ear infection, chest infection, and something we put down to her starting to dream and getting very freaked out (she'd tell us there were bees in the room and was clearly frightened...).

We moved her to a bed at around 22m and she loved it - haven't had the problems since.

So that's not really much help to you (although it might be worth ruling these things out).

We had this with ds .. he thought there was a badger in his room one night and got freaked. Refused to go back in his cot afterwards but luckily we had his new bed set up in his new room so we were able to swap rooms.

exactly the same with DS1 (we had obviously just splashed out the month before on another cot for DS2!)

they are so in cahoots those two

you could try a couple of nights in your bed and then try again in the cot as can have relatively short memories. I was a bit gutted to lose the cot as he would then be up and down all evening, and at that age they are too young to understand any sort of 'listen here young man... stuff!'
