2 year old starting to get buck teeth from thumb sucking, should I take action or leave it?

DS is starting to slightly get buck teeth, nothing major but basically the same as I got, as I was also a thumbsucker. I would like to avoid him having a brace and all the annoyance when he's older, but I don't want to do anything dramatic or upset him, like putting something unpleasant on his thumb.

Saw a device on the net which is a kind of plastic cone with a hole in the top which breaks the suction, they wear it on their hand at night. but recommended only from 3 years old. I am very non interventionist with medical things and don't want to traumatise him as I remember from being a kid how lovely it was sucking your thumb!, but I don't want him to end up with really buck teeth/damaged palate or whatever.

anyone had similar and can advise?

Both my kids thumbsuck and their dentist doesn't worry. He just said no problem until their adult teeth comes in age 5/6/7 until then, nothing to worry about. Also, he said most kids need to wear braces these days if they want perfect teeth.
Only concern would be thumbsucking non stop to the detriment of playing, speaking etc. I have seen one child about 8 who was still using a dummy during the day(!!) and had a deformed upper palate but this was extreme.
I would say, don't worry and appreciate that it is a useful thing in the middle of the night when the child wakes up!

I sucked my thumb til my fixed brace was fitted at 14. I positively thrust a dummy in my kids mouths to discourage thumb sucking. I am relieved to see that DD's front teeth appear to be coming in straight. Are they really protruding at 2?? Gosh thats scary . Sorry my comments are of no comfort whatsoever.

they're not actually protruding, just slightly starting to go a bit beyond what would be perfect iyswim.. and that's what mine did..

My overbite was the worst my orthodontist have ever dealt with- I was one of his case studies and my molds and photos travelled extensively. Was about 16mm IIRC. Gooftastic I was!
