Dropping the afternoon nap first

Hi,

It appears as though ds2 has dropped his afternoon nap. I just can't get him to fall asleep......He naps still in the morning roughly 1 1/2 hours. This means he is up from about 12 until he goes to bed at 7.

Does this sound usual to you? DS1 cut out the morning nap first...

BTW he's almost 1

can you start pushing the morning nap gradually later and then he wouldnt get so tired in the gap between his nap and bed. DS currently naps from around 12.30/1pm till I wake him at 2.30pm for the school run to get his sister.

My DS did exactly the same thing with his afternoon nap at about 11months, he would still want to go down for his morning nap at about 9:30 for maybe 2 hours, but then wouldn't sleep in the afternoon.

Have pushed it back a little bit.. currently he goes down at 10:30 - 11:00am, so getting there

will start trying to push it back a bit to about 11....

My DS1 did exactly the same - he just used to have a nap in the morning (9.30ish for a couple of hours) and then nothing for the rest of the day - although on nursery days, he had his nap after lunch

When he turned 18 months, he suddenly changed and switched to just an afternoon nap which he still has now (he is 2.5) so it may change (not sure how old your DS is)

my children have never really conformed to any nap schedule and have always napped willy nilly, which is fine by me

but of my mate's children it seems that those who had a morning rather than afternoon nap tended to nap until a later age, and also be easier to get to bed at night

tbh if he's happy late afternoon and early evening, and there arent; any other reasons to want him to nap in the afternoon why not just go with the flvw?

DS did this too. He usuall has a nap from 11am- 12:30 then up til bedtime at 7. Can't push it back anymore as he is more cranky for sleep by 11am then he is for bed at 7.
