How much does your toddler eat in a day?

Here's what DD (2.5) has eaten today:

Bowl of cereal (small)
Half a piece of toast with butter
Small box of raisins
A cheese sandwich made with 1 slice of bread
A few crisps
A few nibbles of an apple (!)
Small bowl of pasta with cheese

Milk, apple juice.

She used to be a great eater, but since she passed her second birthday it's gone downhill. She has good and bad days- I suppose they all do, but just interested to know how much your toddlers get through in a day.

my ds2 is 2 at the end of Jan, and he eats about the same, on and off, won't eat bread, loves pasta and porridge and bannana, loves soup with bread and cheese bits in, but messy!

whyme2 · 11/12/2008 23:00

DS aged 2 has eaten today,

3 bowls of cereal, 1 cup of milk,
banana,
2 slices bread, 4 slice cheese, 2 of ham,
yoghurt,
satsuma,
3 biscuits,
4 sweets,
3 slices pizza and 1 cornetto.

This is about normal for him, he is a skinny little thing.

Jic · 11/12/2008 23:04

Three bowls of cereal? Wow! That's great, I'd be so pleased if DD ate that much.

My 2 year old ds has today eaten approx. 6 dry cheerios, 4/5 bites of bread and marge, a banana, a few grapes, three bits of baked potatoe, a spoonful of baked beans, a few bites of haddock, a box of raisins, some carrot, a few peas, three small bits of brocolli, some yoghurt. He used to be a great eater. He has also recently stopped eating so much. He has had quite a good day today. Somedays he refuses to eat anything but cucumber, strange child. I think most kids do that at age 2ish. I am not particularly worried as long as e eats a variety.

blinks · 11/12/2008 23:11

bowl of cheerios
half bagel with butter
few crisps
half apple
breadsticks
banana
raisins
mini chocolate log
small bowl pea and ham soup
half pork chop
masked potato
small bowl ice cream
grapes

apple juice & milk

she's 3 and would eat only sweeties if left to own devices

2 is a very picky age

blinks · 11/12/2008 23:12

'masked potato' sounds good eh? very mysterious...

ChirpyGrinch · 11/12/2008 23:14

I dont pay too much attention to how much DD1 eats (2.10) but I know she eats huge amounts for breakfast and very little for tea.
Today she scarfed a bowl of cereal and 3 slices of peanut butter on toast for breakfast (2 of them were mine)

AlexanderPandasmum · 11/12/2008 23:16

Doesn't sound too bad to me .

DS (21 months) today has had

Breakfast - Bowl of oatibix bitesize soaed in milk and then drained (about 25 of them!) served with milk in a cup (full).

Snacks - Large banana, organix carrot cake bar, 'green one' (fruit smoothie pouch).

Lunch - 3/4 of a 2-slice cheese sandwich, box of raisins, apple (most of), small fromage frais.

Snacks - Gingerbread man (not a usual snack, never had before - was big so he only ate its head and arms )

Tea - 1 findus crispy pancake, couple tablespoons beans, 3 new potatoes, cup of milk.

Jic · 11/12/2008 23:18

Yes I have heard that two is a picky age food wise. I'm fed up of giving her stuff and she doesn't eat it. She had the pasta tonight because I made it for her after she'd refused the casserole I'd made. I suppose I've been so used to her eating well before that this is frustrating now. But reassured by your posts- thanks

DD (3.5yrs) has eaten...

1 chocolate brioche
1 small petite filous
2 slices of ham
handful of frozen peas
half a potato, 2 bites of carrot, half a slice of beef, more peas, box of raisins
1 fish finger
5 chips,
4 florets of broccoli/cauliflower

She had a cup of milk at breakfast, apple juice at lunch and dinner, water throughout the day.

It was a good day today.

Jic · 11/12/2008 23:21

Bowl of malted wheaties
Banana
half of my ricicles
Slice of toast and piece of banana
4 Chicken nuggets and chips
Gingerbread man
bowl of blueberries
a full raw carrot
3 crackers
about 3 tablespoons of tomato pasta, another carrot, 3 florets of broccoli and 4 baby corn and one bite of chicken!
Jelly
Milk and biscuit

He is 3.1. Think he is going through a growth spurt at moment as he has shot up (he has always been tall but skinny). Sometimes he will barely seem to eat for several days and others he is like a bottomless pit Now figure it will all even out!

ilovemydog · 11/12/2008 23:35

Adult size porridge
2 yoghurts
apple/banana puree

4 fish fingers
2 glasses of milk
portion of brocolli
2 yoghurts - one hers; one her brothers
cheese and oat cakes

grape juice
3 oat cakes
2 chicken enchiladas
bag of crisps (nicked off visitor)

she is on 25th percentile for weight and 75th for height (at 2.5)

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 11/12/2008 23:38

hi, sounds normal for a 2 year old, even the best pre-2 eaters can get very picky and eat less than you think they need, given they run around all day! I heard its something to do with them having a sense of control, we dictate so much of their day but what they put in their mouths is one of the few things they can decide. Like where to poo... (but that's another thread )

My 2 yr 7 month old today (fairly typical

breakfast: a small amount of cereal, 3/4 of large banana

am snack: organix apple oat bar

lunch: a few small pieces of ham, cheese stick, grapes, 2 tubes yoghurt

pm snack: organix cheese puffs (bribery to get round Tesco and keep him in the trolley), half a satsuma

tea: refused what i'd made except for a few peas, ended up with 1 and half slice toast with peanut butter, small pot of custard

has milk am and pm, apple juice or water.

I figure as long as he's getting some fruit or veg, enough dairy for bones and some carbs/protein in there somewhere its ok. My friend advised me to look at their diet over a fortnight, not a day, and if they were getting a variety of healthy food and had plenty energy, don't worry!!! Good advice.

Jic · 11/12/2008 23:45

Yes toomuch, I heard that about looking at their diet over a week or fornightly, that's good advice

My 23 month old

Breakfast 8oz milk and few slices of banana

Snack - melon and pear

Dinner - Few spoonfuls of shepherds pie and yoghurt

Tea - Cheese sandwiches

Supper - about 12oz of milk and scotch pancake with jam

She has been at nursery today so we only fed her breakfast and supper.

She had chickenpox last week and would not eat anything for days so am pleased she is eating something at least!

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 11/12/2008 23:56

DD usually eats for eg:

breakfast - small bowl of porridge with raisins/miniwheats/half a piece of toast, piece of fruit

am snack - few grapes, oatcake

lunch - few slices of cheese, 3 crackers, piece of fruit (only picks at these)

pm snack - cereal bar/biscuit, fruit

tea - generous portion of soup, few bites of apple crumble

She also bfs at least 4 times a day and 3 at night. She's 16 months. She tends to eat an average breakfast then pick throughout the day, then eat a huge tea. Today she's just got her appetite back after a tummy bug so all she's done all day is shake the cupboard door and shout 'Food!' It was quite cute but ended up quite wearing as she ate literally all day. So far she likes a wide variety of foods but doesn't eat massive amounts. She is healthy and growing though so I try not to worry
