It is no use telling me to remove all drawing implements, I swear the child hides em in his pants (actually, I did find lego in there last week... )

Anyway.

I am going with the theory that although he can access drawing implements, he cannot access paper. He knows not to draw on books (that message seems to have sunk in ), so he goes for that lovely big white blank canvas....

Soooooooooooo... drawing corner.

We have removed the unplayed with toys, and are setting up a bit in the toy corner for table, pencils, and as much scrap paper as we can get our hands on.

Is this is a sound theory (theory being the key word here... the outcome is unknown, I need back up on the theory)????

it may well do. DS has a chalk board that he can always get at and an aquadraw and since having these along with moving crayons pencils out of reach that i can find. He hides them too. Hes stopped drawing on my lounge walls.
If all else fails just give him chalks as they wipe of no problem.

Hmmm - well I did the drawing corner thingy - the only problem was that the corner slowly increased in size and became the room and then the house and grden. DD used to just draw on herself, which wasn't so much of a problem but now every time I turn around I find she's been drawing on ME.

When my brother and I were kids we found my Dad's pantone markers and drew pictures of naked men and women with enormous willies and tits all over the kitchen. Not only were they impossible to wash off, every time they were painted over they immediately seeped through. Remember my mum trying to explain why they were there when they were selling the house- hysterical!

Suppose I haven't helped apart to say - sharks seem less harmless that tits and willies?

I agree with shelley, defo go with the chalk. I have a half wall painted with a black chalk paint and it worked perfectly, my kids loved it and it never spread beyond the black.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 12/12/2008 02:25

bin all drawing instruments other than crayola then he can draw sharks wherever he likes and it will wipe off with water.

A drawing corner sounds like a good idea. We have recycled A4 printing paper that DS can access whenever he wants.

The other thing he likes is a whiteboard. We have one of those Ikea blackboard/whiteboard easels. He loves the whiteboard.

Although to be fair - he has never drawn on a wall.

we still have pretty walls in our hallway, and the boys room 'art' has only recently been painted over, and that all happened even tho mine have always pretty much had access to stuff! Mind you, we never have had a 'drawing corner', so that might be our downfall.....

I like that 'blackboard' wall idea...............tis one I always wanted only DH did not (he has an aversion to black paint in general).

also, do not forget the 'houses' drawn on our settee.....at the same time as houses being drawn on paper!

set it up tho..........he cannot do much more damage surely than he is already doing.......(unless of course you provide marker pens)

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2008 07:49

The black wall idea would just encourage him to believe he has free reign over all the walls . Plus the landlord might get arsey about black walls.

They came down this morning, Flamechick started colouring, Flameboy wants the aquadraw (but he can't remember where he put the pen ).

I'm at the stage where it has to be worth a shot. No kind of discipline (well, 2 y/o kind) is working.

If all else fails, a quick squirt of spray furniture polish gets crayon off walls and doors in an instant with none of the rubbing you have to do with a babywipe... though of course not drawing on the walls/door in the first place would be best. Unfortunately DD hasn't learnt this yet .
