I thought all children are fussy eaters in some form or manner and I hoped that as they got older they would slowly improve. However my two DD's are 4 yrs and 6 yrs old and seem to be getting worse.

After this mornings breakfast I just had to post here! My youngest said yes to toast with butter (a surprise at the time as she's gone off toast for months) and when I gave it to her she started her usual moan "I dont like this". I knew in the back of mind she would do this. What she wanted and thought she'd asked for was bread and butter! It so winds me up. She usually eats Weetabix and the other week I decided to treat her and get the Weetabix mini's with chocolae chips which she adored (who wouldn't!). After this sweet heaven breakfast experience she doesn't eat any other breakfast cereal (I know, this one is my own fault). Instead I'll have to make her a ham sandwich for her breakfast. Is that weird? So not my thing first thing in the morning, but to get something inside their tummies before school makes us mums not go out of our minds with worry that the're dying of hunger in the classroom.

My DH last night did us all potatoe wedges, baked beans and sausages! A kids meal from heaven you'd think!! No, not my two. My oldest usually eats baked beans but didn't touch them. I said to DH "are these Heinz beans?" And he said "No I picked up the Waitrose beans". Ah, thats why they won't eat them!! It drives me insane!

I do the "no treat afterwards" thing and send them to bed hungry sometimes (they are that stubborn) which kills me as that is one thing I find the hardest to do!

On the other hand they will eat their favourite meals, spag bol and a roast. They do eat some veg (as long as its accompanied with gravy). However my youngest DD wil not eat ANY fruit and oldest DD will only eat 3 types of fruit.

It does worry me. Sorry for this long post but my rant is now over. Any handy tips would be appreciated. Thanks for listening!

Popsy, my ds has been a fussy eater since he was 18 months old (he's nearly 5 now)

He has expanded his repetoire over the last 6 months or so but he still eats a fairly limited range of food.

I've stopped worrying about it and just adapt his meals around what we are having. This has actually led to him asking to try new things!

My tips are to not talk about what you are eating (eg, I wouldn't have asked re the beans as I know that might set him off) and I don't make an issue of whether he eats or not. And I don't offer him food which I know he genuinely doesn't like (eg, bananas - he doesn't even like hte smell of them)

That's the only way I can deal with it tbh.

It must be a nightmare with 2 of them though.
