Want to move dd into a 'big girl' bed before ds goes into her room.

DD is 15months and ds is 5 weeks.

She is already trying to climb out of her cot and I would like to move her into a bed before we make the move and put ds into her room in a few months.

What is the best way to do this? New bedding? Mattress on floor? I dunno.

Any tips appreciated.

i moved ds astraight into junior bed so low no damage can be done if rolled out but i tucked duvet in at outside of bed and left open near the wall so if rolled duvet stopped him rolloing out anyway

he never did have a fall and is now 3.6 in big bed with a bed rail if you worry too much put spare duver beside bed so soften the fall

but with duvet tucked in my ds didnt once roll out as junior beds are so small duvet was in half not length ways so wrapped all the way under bed so no way it could even be pulled out

No proper advice, as we haven't been through this ourselves, but we'll be facing the same dilemma as you before too long - I'm planning to put safety sides on a normal single bed and start off by letting her sleep in it for her naps as a 'treat' & then see how it goes from there...

We put dd1 into big bed by putting her in a toddler bed with one side along the wall and put her cot up against the bed on the other side so if she woke in the night she saw the familiar cot bars and wasn't scared or tempted to get out. After about 6 weeks we moved the cot further away for a couple of weeks then took it out the room altogether, just intime for dd2 needing it.

We re decorated DD's room and while the paint was drying over night we put her in out room in her cot.

We bought new bed and headboard and new Night Garden bedding and a bed rail and just made a point of taking down her cot infront of her and telling her she had her brand new bedroom.

She was just over 2.

she never bothered and loved it. We put a baby gate across her door and we did put a few pillows around the floor incase she fell out the end but she never did. Good luck

Thank you everyone. I will be taking the side off the cot on Saturday

I tried to take the sides of ds's cot in the week. Ds2 due in feb and wanted to get ds1 in bed before baby arrived so as not to disrupt him too much (he is 16m).
Was a bit of a nightmare tbh and ended up putting sides back on after 2 hours. Do it on a day where neither you, dp or dd is too tired or irrate as you might have a few hours of dd running around the house, we and ds really got quite worked up.
I like the idea of putting the cot up against the bed though.

I know she will get out etc but I have decided that I am not going to get het up over it for the time being. I will put some toys in her room then at least if she gets out of bed so will be occupied

Well, I did it tonight. It took 2hours for her to fall asleep, on the floor mind. She is now tucked up in her bed
