I am probably posting in wrong section?? Anyway - I wanted some advice please on christmas tree fairy lights - are they safe to have with a 16 month old around? I have heard horror stories of children being electrocuted by fairy lights. What does everyone else do??

Just turn them on in the night when it's dark and for the times it is dark in the late afternoon maybe turn them off if you leave the room?

ermm never had any problems with my three but then tree is visible and they are just warned with their lives not to touch.

Unplug them, rather than flicking off the wall switch, when not in use.

I wonder whether the LED lights are safer tha the traditional ones, as the voltage is lower? Someone else might know??

I've got l.e.d battery powered ones as my 16 month old can plug and unplug things, even the socket guards. They are nice and very cheap from poundstrechers!

battery powered ones sound good. anywhere else I can get them i.e. online? as nowhere near poundstretcher here!

You can also get them off ebay if you just type in and search for 'L.E.D battery lights' and there's all sorts of plain ones like I've got or star shaped ones, coloured or white. I got mine for 4.99 and they sell for a similar price on ebay.xx

If the bulbs are glass I would be worried about my DS biting them, he is still at the stage where he puts everything in his mouth and has really strong teeth! So wouldn't want him getting at them at this age (he is 12mo), even if they are switched off. I think we are going to put our Christmas tree behind the barrier we use to protect our fire and hi-fi (it's one of those that you can use either as a playpen or safety barrier).
