Really stressed: Son taken out of class today

Just found out from my 7 yr old dd who saw my 4 yr old ds go into a special room at school today. So I asked him about it and he said he and one other boy went to this room to do some exercises while the rest of the class played outside.

I know they take challenging (for want of a better word) children to this room which is a nurturing type place and now I am really stressed about why they took him there. It seems very strange and I know I am going to worry all night.

My DH says they would have spoken to us but maybe they are waiting till parent's night next week to hit me with something. Am I being ridiculous?

I'd be surprised too if there'd been a significant issue, surely the school would've let you know if that was the case?

Could you ring the school tomorrow, or speak to his teacher when you/DH drops him off tomorrow? Try not to worry!

I think you are over reacting! 'Special Rooms' can be for extra literacy support, numeracy, reading, social skills, assessment (where it's quiet) language skills. I'd ask his teacher before you start thinking the worst.

it could be anything! I am a primary teacher and we take children out for all sorts - yes support work in all subjects, extension work, to read to teaching assistant, could have been simply to discuss a class issue - missing ruler/pencil etc or practise lines for play/assembly, to help make props for play? chosen by his friend to stay in at play time with him to play games etc(if friend has cough/asthma/hurt foot etc), could be reading/spelling assessment (have before had rest of the class playing informal games outside and children being taken in a couple at a time? or if you say it is almost parents evening we get the children at that age to tell us a sentense about what they have enjoyed most at school to write in the 'child statement' bit of the form to share with the parents - which would be done in small group!

If it had been something 'major' you would know about it!! Have you asked your 7year old which adult/teacher took him there - then ask your 4 yr old if he did any work today with that person!
