Transfer from Amby hammock to cot - any tips?

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone has been through this process and could give me some handy hints, please.

DS co-slept with us from birth til 6 months. At 3 months we got an Amby hammock and he started sleeping in there from 7pm and coming in with us when we went to bed. At 6 months he went into his own room and within a month he was sleeping through. He is now 10 months and over 22lbs, so we really need to get him into the cot! But on the 2 occasions that I've tried (daytime naps) he's just screamed the house down, so I've taken him out and put him back in the hammock.

He is used to his cot- I put him in there to play if I can't keep an eye on him for a few minutes and he's always happy with that.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks

We just took the plunge and did the usual night time routine put DD in a cot with music and she (DD3 and DD4 both were ok) took a couple of nights crying a bit but got used to it very quickly, I don't suppose there's any other way...have you got double springs on the Amby?

eemsbatt · 02/12/2008 20:34

Double springs? We've just got the one it came with. I got excited as there's a heavy duty spring that goes up to 40lbs - I thought he could stay in there for years and then we'd be able to reason with him , but the Amby website still says only up to 12 months.

When you say DD was crying - did you leave her to cio? I don't know if that's something we could do.

Yes you can interlink two springs, will last you a bit longer you can order another from the website. DD cried and had to be settled a few times, picked her up cuddled etc took about three nights but fine now It's hard to leave them and a minute feels like forever but it shouldn't take too long, good luck.

Ahhh, ok thanks!

You make it sound so easy! Maybe I should try putting him in one evening as that's when he has the strongest going to sleep routine, IYKWIM?

Thank you.

Is he used to a bed with you occasionally?
Maybe go straight to a bed?
It will be fine

(we have an Amby. I alternately love it and hate the stupid thing)

eemsbatt · 02/12/2008 21:07

No, he hasn't been in our bed since 6 months. Although sometimes I really miss it

Why do you hate your Amby?

Oh I don't really. I think it has helped to settle him. I just can't seem to put him back gently - it's such a palaver in the middle of the night to standup, hold thing between knees, throw him in, reswaddle, bla bla bla. Much easier to just have him next to me (mister feeds every-two-hours). Mind you, think I felt like that about the cot before.

The co-sleeper was brill - but he would be too big anyway now. And our new Gigantic bed has a ledge on the side, so a bedside cot prob wouldn't work well...

I know what you mean about missing co-sleeping. I do like sleeping alone occasionally but it is nice sleeping wedged between my babies (4mth old ds on one side, 2.6yo dd curled up against my back) aaaaahhhhhh
