Is there a 13mth old 'phase'?

My once placid, chilled, ever smiling do anything with ds now seems to get upset really easily. When I change his nappy, he screams, when I move him away from plug sockets, he cries etc etc.
I don't think he is teething, as I can't feel anything (although he is still toothless!), so I just wondered if this is a phase and anything I can do to make the ride a bit easier? He just doesn't seem as happy anymore. DH says he has his mummy's temper and that he is just showing it more now, as he is more aware of what is going on and what he wants.
Any thoughts appreciated - cheers for reading.
PS I'm off to bed soon, but will logon again in morning.

My DS has been a bit like this recently - he's 16mo now. I think they are just at a stage where they are realising they are individual beings, not just an extension of someone else, so they get frustrated easily...they want to do so much with their newly-found crawling/walking/exploring skills, and aren't best pleased with being told what to do yet!

Mine's got a bit better recently, but still screeches all the way through a nappy change unless I give him some contraband (mobile phone/TV remote etc) to play with

My wife has the same issues - and she's 22!

PeriodocalCicada - thanks for that, i agree, i just hope it doesn't last too long. i have a selection of 'nappy changing' toys on a shelf next to changing mat. he is into everything, isn't walking yet. he didn't crawl until he was 11 months, so i think we've had it easy for quite a while! combined with this, he giggles whenever i say 'no' to him (until i physically remove him, which is when he throws a paddy). hopefully my smily boy will return soon.

Raalix - very funny

Yep my DD was exactly the same at that age. I thought the terrible twos had arrived a year early! I posted on here about it a couple of times too. I think it had a lot to do with frustration as she couldn't tell me what she wanted, and she didn't understand a lot of things either.

She is a lot better now she's 17 months, I think mainly because her talking / understanding is so much better.
