Advice about dropping that final feed please

Hello

Our son was one on Friday and has been breast fed since he was born. I have gradually dropped the feeds one by one over the last 6 months or so and he now only has one short feed as he dozes off to sleep in the evening. Tonight is going to be the first night I put him to bed without feeding him.

Any advice? Should I just put him in his cot and walk away? Or cuddle him on the chair where I've always fed him (he's not really a cuddly baby, tends to squirm out of our arms!)? He will go down for naps in the day very well but he's never gone to sleep for the night any other way. He's never been bothered by the other feeds being dropped so maybe I'm just worrying about this one but any tips would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

srv

Will you give him a bottle instead?

Hi srv,

I've just stopped bf my son (he's 13 months) and have replaced it with a cup of water, a book and lots of cuddles. He won't touch cows milk or formula from a cup or a bottle otherwise I would probably have given him a little cows milk at bedtime.

Hope that helps,
ziggy x

i think i slightly changed my ds's routine when i dropped his last feed. where i used to feed him to sleep in his room, i changed to giving him a bottle in the living room so that he wouldn't miss it so much, and he didn't seem to mind.

Hi SRV - I had the same dilemma a few weeks ago with my 15mo old DTs, although I still BF them first thing as they are allergic to cow's milk. I just did everyting the same as normal, bath, grobag, etc and then replaced the feed with a story instead. There was a little crying the first night, but really wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be. I'm always amazed at how little ones adapt so quickly. In fact, I think it was far more emotional for me than them!!
