I have a friend, no, really, whose DS aged 2.4 has just had bronchitis and has developed the habit of wanting to sleep with Mum or Dad, he doesn't care where but the parents are desperate. He simply won't stay in bed and goes out of the room calling for them....Please help!!

Will he stay in bed once he's asleep? Could his mum or dad lie with him until he's asleep.

Can't blame him really for wanting to be with them

Ds (2) is doing this atm, as he's recovering from a bad cold and cough. I'm happy for hoim to snuggle in with us in the early mornings (say after 5), ebfore then he is told to stay in his own bed (he's in a cot so can't get out). It passes when he feels better .

This guy doesn't take no for an answer. He can get out (in a bed) and does. The parents have been sleeping with him for over a week and now it's become habit...

Mine had periods of getting in with us at 2-3. It's quite a common age to be scared of things. It usually passes. My eleven and seven year old certainly haven't done it for years but my 22 month old comes in most nights.

He's not scared he just wants to sleep with them...they can't get him to sleep at all unless one of them is there....

Sounds normal for a 2yo. Well it was in our house anyway

Can't one of them stay with him until he falls asleep?
What about somewhere for him to sleep at the side of their bed if he comes in during the night?

I'd go with it for now if he's been ill, then try negotiating... what about one of those bunny clocks so he can tell when it's morning and he can go into their room for a cuddle?
