Has your child?s behaviour changed since they started school?

My son has always been a ?challenging? boy but since he started full time school his behaviour has got worse. He?s so cheeky, answers back, lashes out, won?t do as he?s asked and I?m at a loss as to what to do. My husband leaves the house for work early and doesn?t get back until late so it?s just me dealing with it. I?ve tried to turn getting ready for school in the morning into a game ? you know ?can you get up to the bathroom before I?ve put these plates in the dishwasher/counted to 10?? Which has helped a little bit but I just find some days are a real battle. I know we?re told to ignore the bad behaviour and praise the good but, when he?s dragging the dog/cat around, I really can?t ignore it!

Don?t get me wrong, he?s a lovely little boy who can be an absolute sweetie and I love him to bits but I do find myself looking for the 6?s on his head.

AFAIK they all get a little bit cheekier than they were when they start school. DD2 and DSD started Reception this year, DD2 has always been cheeky in a sweet way, and there has not been much change in her, but DSD who was a certified angel before she started school has changed dramatically. I actually got a filthy look up and down then 'whatever' from her when I asked her to hang her coat up the other day

Perfectly normal, and IIRC from DD1 who is now in Yr2, they do settle down.

This morning I got a 'shut up', 'Go away' and 'I don't want you'. All I was doing was getting his breakfast. What a lovely way to start the day

Good to hear they settle down. Don't think my poor nerves will cope with this long term. Some days my stress levels go through the roof!

Aaah, a nice glass of wine once they are in bed tends to cure all ills I find.

I just dealt with it in the same way I would normally deal with too much cheek, but cut them a little slack, it does take a while though, and you do wonder which children in the class have parents that allow them to talk like that already

Wine consumption has definitely gone up in this house lately!
