Eating and Food Issues....

Can anyone advise...

My 14th month old son has stopped eating. He used to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner including snacks. He wouldnt eat jar food, just my home cooked food but that was fine. Now he's stopped eating all together for nearly 2 weeks. Although he does eat a good breakfast of muesli, fruit, sometimes toast and some raisons, lunch and dinner are non events. He will however eat Ella's pouches, stage 1, sqeezed into his mouth and yogurts!!

Please can anyone advise how I can get him eating regular textured food again....

I should add, he has had lots of teeth pop through of late, infact he has all his bottom teeth and front top teeth and im guessing his top molar's are coming through...
Usually when he's teething he'll go off his food but only for a day or 2, never nearly 2 weeks!!

Thanks
x

this is depressingly, developmentally very common. as they start to walk, they are genetically programmed to be suspicious of food - a hangover from the cavemen days when it was good not to put stuff in your mouth in case it was poisonous. All of my 3 have gone through exactly the same. I know it is very very hard, but ime, you must jsut continue to offer food at meal times and snack times and if it is refused, take it away without comment. do not start offering lots of alternatives, or endless yoghurts - if you do, this will end up being months, not weeks. I speak from bitter experience. Stressed out endlessly with DS1 about it - ignored it with ds2 and dd and they went through it in about a month. YOur job is to offer meals - their choice is to eat it. Good luck. I know it's horrid.

are you doing anything for the teething pain? a bit of gel 10mins before a feed?

i do find that even if Ds will not eat the food thats offered to him he will gladly share anything he sees me eating.

Thanks
Im worried he'll get savvy to just having Ella's pouches and yogurts!!

I wasn't too worried untill tonight! He cried throughout bathtime (he loves bathtime!!) he didn't take his bedtime bottle (he always wants his milk) and he went straight to sleep without a sound!!

He doesn't have a temperature (Ive checked 4 times since 7pm!) but he did have his MMR on Monday....!?!?!?!?
