slings-question

Hello am expecting baby no3 and want to use a sling for the first few months ( i live two floors up) so was wondering what people recommend.
ALso was told by friend that Baby bjorn slings are bad for babies as they don't provide enough support for the baby's undercarriage and back, especially when facing forward - anyone else heard this?
Have offer of a Baby bjorn active and have used them before, but obviously don't want babe to be uncomfortable..

Most people who babywear a lot don't use Bjorns as they are not that ergonomic for mother or baby - I personally think the forward facing position looks uncomfortable for baby but no research to back this up (unless baby has clicky hips)

I used a stretchy wrap for newborns. Very quick and easy to put on once you get the hang of it - could put baby in or out in less than 30 seconds.

Use a fabric sling. I used a Coorie with BabyDragon,.

the Baby Bjorn type slings are not good for babies (something to do with weight being on the pelvis or something. I used one with both DSs and they've been fine but the other kinds of slings are far superior anyway IME)

I used a wrap for ds and it was so comfortable-something like a moby or calin bleu is ideal for newborns and v easy to pop baby in and out of (though it is daunting to tie on when you first get it once you have done it a few times it is easy).

Is that the one where you sort of wrap it round and round - they look very complicated to me but the baby always looks very snug. Where do you get them?

I'm not sure about Baby Bjorn thing, was surprised to hear it from a friend as so many people seem to love them (although I always found them a bit awkward)

ergo or other makes like it are MUCH better for your back and the baby's.

look at bigmamaslings.co.uk they are v good for advice and you can hire to try before you buy.

I will google those wraps - would like babe to be comfortable (and asleep) while traumatising the other two in their forward facing buggy...

There are so many different types but I like my wrap around sling. Mine's Kari Me but there's other ones similar. It seems a bit of a fankle at first but you soon get used to it. It's adjustable, comfortable and the baby is really snuggly in it. You can put them in different positions according to their age.

I really like the look of the Kari Me, it seems very versatile and, incidentally, will be very good for covering up post-baby flab. I like the way you can put them upright when they wake up without having to faff too much. Will have to practice with it though before babe appears.

The thing to do with the wrap, which I eventually figured out, was to put it on in the morning and leave it on all day. Stretchy wrap is really nice for babies. We used www.kari-me.com and then when ds go bigger an ergo and a tettitett mai tai.

Ideally babies knees should be slightly above the level of their bum when carrying them upright. It allows their lower backs to be slightly arched.

Here's one article www.continuum-concept.org/reading/spinalStress.html

With an older baby, you can kind of feel them scootching about in a baby bjorn trying to get comfy.

i've got a kari-me too and they're great. this website www.storchenwiege.com/babycarrierresearch.htm is all about research on what a sling should have and how it shouls be worn. plus this one www.storchenwiege.com/differentholds.htm shows you the different kinds of ways to wear it. these ones are effectively the same as kari-me just a lot more expensive.
