No reason other than I'm a bit curious and nosy and a bit proud of ds's drawings although they are probably the norm

However, we're allowed to be stupidly pleasedat our lo's achievements aren't we!

Lol at snails with willies! Dd was younger than two, although I can't remember precisely how old, when she drew "daddy having a wee behind the fence in the woods" - a stick man, with a line, and a blue puddle. And dd1 used to draw "oranges falling down cliffs" and "dinosaur bones" at about the same age. Most peculiar!

thatsnotmymonster · 23/11/2008 21:46

Loving snails with willies!!

Thanks Jellyfish! It is amazing how quickly they progress isn't it? And why do they all draw arms and legs coming out of the head at first!!

Before he was 2 ds used to draw snakes (long lines )

janeite- your dd sounds very talented! lol at 'oranges falling down cliffs' too!

Yes - dd2 seems very talented creatively - but, at 11, still seems incapable of brushing her own hair!!!

Thomcat · 23/11/2008 21:52

DD2 will be 3 at xmas and can draw funny little faces with stick arms and legs.

chipmunkswhereareyou · 23/11/2008 23:34

Not a lot really. He's 3.5 and most of the other kids in his 'year' at nursery all do pics of people.

Ah well.

aiti72 · 24/11/2008 08:18

Oh I so like this question (proud proud mummy here) as DD started drawing whole people at 2. At 3.5 years old she draws better than me, all the animals, landscapes, people in positions (running, jumping, cycling(!!)) and also makes drawings from 3D objects. The other day she drew all her teddies, Tweety looks exactly like Tweety. DD's teachers at preschool noticed this as soon as she started there a year ago, we had no idea she was a very early starter. But I have to say DD draws hours a day (which worries me a bit), has always loved it, she has lots of nice toys and all she wants is her pens and paper!

aiti72 · 24/11/2008 08:22

And the whole people I mean she drew the eye brows as well

GooseyLoosey · 24/11/2008 08:23

Ds (now 5) could draw nothing but a scribble at 3/4 and has not progressed a great deal now. Any homework that involves colouring is a nightmare as is going into school to see art displays on the walls. Ds freely acknowledges he hates drawing.

Dd (4) will attempt to draw anything. Her efforts are not always recognisable and her people resemble aliens. She is however leagues ahead of her brother.

Enjoy your proud mummy moment.

DS age 4.0 - heads with eyes/mouths/noses and sometimes limbs. Quite keen on drawing "power rangers" although he colours their heads in black because "they wear masks". That reminds me - one of my friends from school used to draw pictures then colour them in entirely black so that she just had a sheet of black paper (when she was around age 4). Psychologist, anyone?!!

Anna8888 · 24/11/2008 08:52

Just 4-year-old DD can draw her family (me, DP, her, her two brothers, her grandparents) in a basic but recognisable sort of way (ie she manages long hair for her, curly hair for her father, make up for me, sizes in proportion etc), she can draw houses and gardens with flowers/trees in them, a Christmas tree with decorations.

Anna8888 · 24/11/2008 08:53

She can also write the names of her family and copy out a little message for a birthday card.

thatsnotmymonster · 24/11/2008 10:11

Wow Aiti72 you should be VERY proud of your dd- sounds amazing!!

keep them coming!

"Ish" by Peter Reynolds is great if you feel your dc is getting frustrated and giving up because things don't look quite right.

At the moment his forte is Mr Men (he is 4 in March)

kkey21 · 24/11/2008 10:26

My Ds1 (3.3) draws fantastic aeroplanes compltete with windows and people inside, their faces clearly seen. The pilot always has a ''steering wheel!'' and he gets the wings angled just perfect like you'd see if you saw one turning in the sky!

Also can manage people running, walking, on a slide etc.....

He can also write a birthday card with me spelling out what he needs to write and its really neat.

My Ds2 (12weeks) well......he can...lol!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 24/11/2008 10:28

DS will be 4 in a few wks.... he is currently drawing whole people, bodies, heads, arms, legs, feet, hands, hair... and also babies in mummies tummy!! He is very good at drawing trees, hedgehogs, bears, spiders..... think thats about it of really recognisable pictures...... oh actually he once drew a really cool picture of a castle in a forest in his nursery homework, and also one of a pond with a boat and a crocodile in it...

DD is 2.7 and will draw spiders and flowers... she's currently obsessed with 'writing' her name.... that consistes of lots and lots of circles all over the page!!! How cute!!!???

onthewarpath · 24/11/2008 11:04

DS mainly drew his familly, big blobs with their arms and legs comming strait out of the head and eyes that were so big they were actually covering the lot, most of the time because there was no more space on the head the mouth was outside but almost always smiling. the resemblance was uncanning...to some of Picasso's paintings.

PinkTulips · 24/11/2008 11:13

dd will be 4 at the end of january and can draw recognisable buses and trains and draws me as a big bubble with arms, legs, hair and face which is quite cute.

she has also managed trees and has started doing those cute little pictures of houses with windows and doors

she does rainbows and faces alot too but everything else tends to be a squiggle of colour and 'look mommy it's a cat'

OonaghBhuna · 24/11/2008 13:22

At this age children will start to draw symbollically eg recogisable shapes and objects, faces, people etc. However the most important thing is to get them to draw and lots of it. To allow them to play and experiment rather than to tell them what to draw as they will get this at school.

Olifin · 24/11/2008 22:20

DD is 3.2 and really can't seem to draw much at all. She does circles and crosses (kisses) but seems to find drawing intensely frustrating. Given a crayon and piece of paper, she will usually do a furious scribble and say 'I can't do it'.
She does have some skills in other areas though.

Jux · 24/11/2008 22:26

DD could draw pretty well anything she wanted to draw, though it wasn't always instantly recognisable
