Help!- ds(6) kicking others when playing football

DS has been miserable for the past week. When I discussed it with him he stated that he was not having a nice time at school at the moment because a certain boy (a friend he adores) had accused him of kicking him while playing football at break time and had reported DS to his class teacher. DS said this boy was 'lying' and he had just 'tackled' him. Now DS is not known to have any aggressive tendencies and so at the time of the conversation I sympathised with him and agreed with him that tackling was not kicking and perhaps this boy had got it mixed up.

This morning he has just been to his football lesson. DP says he saw DS twice kick another child when they were playing a game. He says it was not done maliciously but when he ran to get the ball he seemed to be kicking rather aimlessly in an attempt to get the ball. When confronted at home he again stated he was 'tackling' not kicking.

My feeling is that he's football abilities are very poor and by being aggressive he feels he is getting involved in the game. However he is losing friends by this approach!!!!

Poor DS, sounds like he's only learning how to tackle, it's a skill (according to DH - a coach)that takes time to master and he's only 6. Could DH practice tackling with him?

Katie - I think a trip to the park with a ball is in order this weekend. Thanks.
