Could a 14 month old understand role play?

DS (just turned 14 months) loves pushing a dolly in a pram and whenever he does I say stuff like "oh hello Daddy, are you taking your baby for a walk?" He always smiles when I say it but is he just having fun pushing a pram or do you think he could actually understand the concept of pretending to be a daddy? I'm intrigued to know!

No I don;t thin they get into role play until nearer 2 (though not absolutely sure) but you have to sya something don;t you so I wouldn;t change!

I wouldn't have thought so but I could be wrong! My ds loves to pretend to do things like playing with a toy hoover and 'cleaning' with a feather duster but I am sure he is just copying what he sees me doing (He is 15 months). I think he will possibly understand the link between what you are saying ie, taking baby for a walk and the action of doing it though. I only have to tell my ds what something is once or wgat he's doing once and he remembers it. If I ask him to do something he was doing a few days ago, he goes and does it or gets whatever it is I am talking about. I don't think they can role play til much later though, maybe around 2 years??
