Tantrums while recovering from illness

My DD(2.1) is normally the sunniest child ever. She has been ill for a week and a half with a stomach bug then chesty cough and is now on the mend. For the last two days she has been throwing constant tantrums and is just generally in a BAD mood.

Do you think this is because she is tired and weak (she was already thin and has lost a lot of weight) or is this just a new developmental phase ( I hope not!!!) She has never been so unwell before and is my only child so I don't know!!

TIA!

My DC are always a nightmare recovering from being ill. In fact I now use it as a good indicator they are on the path to recovery

I know just how you feel and to make it worse I have her lurgy and feel really rough! DH stepped in big time today and looked after her as I was absolutely at the end of my rope

We have agreed only to use our "happy" voice for the next few days as it seems to keep the peace. Telling her off or talking to her in a grumpy voice just sets her off!

She is 2.2 btw so similar age.

It's a nightmare isn't it..I also have a touch of her lurgy but am just quite tired..my DH has it really badly so it's all been down to me to look after her today.

The latest thing is to ask for chocolate at every meal and have a tantrum because we don't have any!!

"Post-viral", my mother calls it. In our family it is a well recognised problem, and the sufferer is allowed to be vile and obnoxious for 10 days post the disappearance of the illness before normal service needs to be resumed...

We cancel all activities and hunker down (and take some deep breaths and hope it passes soon).

10 days I'd better learn some patience then!! She has been cranky since the first day of illness 10 days ago....

I suppose it's good practice for future tantrums!

snickersnack - sounds like good advice 10 days sounds alot but I know from when she had Chickenpox it lasted more than that. Something to do with getting used to being pampered then normal routine has to creep back in! Particularly at this age.

Fanjo (love the name btw - are you new or are you just a new name? I haven't seen you about much before) I prescribe some red wine - quantities depend on your usual intake abilities I suggest a bottle and an early night.

I am dreading DH getting this bug - I know he will and he will be sicker and for longer than either of us put together

Thanks..I used to be HereComeTheGirls but namechanged,....am getting used to being called Fanjo now!

My DH got her stomach bug then her chesty cough bug and of course has been super sick and sleeping 20 hours a day!!!

Am already on the wine and about to go to bed with a glass, hoping DH will be better tomorrow and able to take over a bit!!!

Ah ha - I knew you did not sound new.

Just all chill out tomorrow with the sofa and a duvet. DD loves Peppa pig so I have a few SKY+ for just these occasions. She watched it while I dozed on the sofa today. I love 2 year olds - I could not have done that a few months ago.

I think the problem with my DD is that she will not chill out now that she is slightly better, she is trying to be her usual hyper self and its too much for her!!

Oh yes! Even Playdough got thown today which is unheard of - she loves it so much she usually only has one colour at a time then puts it back and starts a new one. The stupid scissors would not work for her so she threw it all over the lounge. Then wanted to mush them all together. Hence me getting cross!

Curry here - have to go (purely medicinal spicey food )
