Every think I do for DD is wrong. I have just cut her toast in the wrong way.

So she is doing a pitched whiney cry.

Ahhhh! will I ever be able to do anything right for her?

she will.
When? is the question

Acinonyx · 15/11/2008 11:13

Tut tut. Get it right mummy. Toast and sandwiches must always be cut to dd's satisfaction in this house or there is serious protesting.

Yes, my dd is also 3.

tribpot · 15/11/2008 11:19

God, I could have posted this this morning too. Arrrrggghhhhhhh.

i know this is going to sound quite annoyingly like i have the answers to the hellishly knotty problem that is a three year old, and i REALLY don't, but sometimes, if you can bear to, what really works is to do something they're not expecting - whatever you can manage - sometimes just ask an unexpected question or tell them something interesting or just do something that's outside of the usual groove you've got into (IYKWIM) - when it comes to fights i think they know how it goes as well as you do and sometimes they just need you not to 'play the game'. having said that, it def doesn't always work and sometimes doing it is simply more than one can manage!

ROFL

20 years ago my friend was terribly upset that her DD, now 23 (you do the maths) was crying all the time and this surely meant she was a bad mother. I pointed out to her that I had seen DD that morning cry because her toast was cut the wrong way. This is just a stage and in answer to your question as to whether it will stop, yes, and will you ever be able to do anything right for her, guess what, yes!

DFs daughter now a beautiful, well balanced young woman who has a terrific relationship with her mother

My dd was like this - toast cut at the wrong angle? Global disaster! Wrong shape of pasta - don't go there!

When ds (second child) was about 2, I held the ketchup bottle over his plate and asked him where he wanted it. (2 cm to the left of optimum would have resulted in meltdown with dd) He looked at me, puzzled, thought for a while, then his brow cleared "On the PLATE please, mummy" he said.

henrys7thwife · 16/11/2008 00:13

GRRR hated this stage with DD1. Didn't have it with any of my boys, DD2 nearly talking so hopefully will bypass it with her ::steels self::

"Mummy, my sock has twisted inside my shoe because you put it on funny this morning!" really got me.

Lazycow · 16/11/2008 00:53

I am sure it is just a stage. Having said that, DS (my only) doesn't really do this much. He does on the other hand do many many other things just as tiresome sigh!!

seeker · 16/11/2008 18:18

My dd used to wail "My sock's gone wiggly!" then fling herself on the floor howling like a banshee!

katiek123 · 16/11/2008 22:08

LOL seeker - you describe the fascinating contrast between my DD and DS to perfection. exactly the same. lynette - every day was hideous at 3 with my DD (now 7) because i had poured her cornflakes into her bowl into the 'wrong shape of heap, mummy'. it was tantrum central in our house without fail at 7am most days for a time - mmmh how i look back at those halcyon toddler days !! DS was so mellow in comparison i used to look at him in incomprehension as he advised me that he didn't care how high his socks came up his legs/what colour beaker his drink came in etc etc.
yes - it does get better!! take heart x

hellymelly · 16/11/2008 22:11

God my dd is just the same-she is three.I was much cheered by oldiebutgoldies message!

OldieButGoldie · 16/11/2008 22:21

Oh good! Glad to be of assistance

Tommy · 16/11/2008 22:28

did you put it on the right colour plate though? I get into trouble quite a lot for that obvious serious error

I get the same with ds though - so its not just dds! I sometimes am told that I am driving home 'the wrong way' as I haven't taken the alternative option - which is usually slower due to parking issues and a lower speed limit. And yet ds will howl if I don't remember to go 'the right' way...
