My little un has started saying: Oh my god! loudly in shops - I am ignoring it. My other half also says bum whilst I prefer bottom. Not too worried - could be a lot worse. Also what do you call farts at home? Any thoughts please .......

My parents always used to say you'd "let off" when you did a fart. at the OMG, ds went through a stage at a year old when he used to say "Shit" constantly. It was his new sound, but very

jodee · 12/11/2008 22:55

a fart is a fart! DS thinks using the word 'poo' is hilarious, and uses it at every opportunity.

Annya · 13/11/2008 12:35

Must admit I prefer bottom to bum but dp and his parents say bum and I'm not so fussed I'd ask them not to. We have gone for trump for fart. It was dp's idea, personally I think its a bit twee but it does sound very cute in ds' little voice.

Marne · 13/11/2008 12:37

Dd1 likes saying 'fart' at the moment, we were walking to school the other day when she said 'oh, im so clever, i can walk and fart at the same time' (top of her voice) .

Freckle · 13/11/2008 12:37

A fart is a fart in this house and I'm afraid to admit that arse has taken over from bum . It's just so much more satisfactory .

NotBigJustBolshy · 13/11/2008 12:38

Funnily enough, dh and I (one atheist, one agnostic) find ds (3) saying "oh god" completely unacceptable and pulled him up on it in no uncertain terms. Bum and fart are fine and any euphemism for fart sounds unbearably prissy to my ears.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2008 12:38

A fart is a 'trump'
A bum is a 'bum'

My ds(2) also says 'oh my god' and 'Jesus'

littlestrawberry · 13/11/2008 12:48

A farts a fart, a bums a bum. I have 2 boys they love words like that. They're favourite insut for each other is 'poo, poo, bum, bum'

We are also atheists and I have been known to say Oh my god occasionally but I don't allow the ds' to say it.

I also say crap quite alot but don't like hearing that come out of their mouths either.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 13/11/2008 12:51

a fart is a toot.
and bum is bum

DS (3) said Fuck the other day.
we were in the car and there was an old guy in front of us who wasn't driving very well. DH said: "that guy is fucking useless!"
a voice from the back says "Daddy, is that guy FUCKING you??"

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 13/11/2008 12:52

A fart is a fart.

A bum is a peach.

Ds has been know to say 'Well now that's gone all bloody' (for wrong) which makes me roffle.

MumtoCharlieandLola · 13/11/2008 13:02

Does anyone have boys who are obsessed with the words poo, willy and bum and find them hilarious. I have a 2yo and a 6yo and they have to say these words at least 40 times per day. It drives me mad and the more I tell them off the more they do it, esp the 2 yo who is a monster.

whomovedmychocolate · 13/11/2008 13:06

DD says in her most outraged voice 'ooh my goodness' whenever anyone farts and feigns horror with her hand over her mouth (I'm afraid she got that from me), before dissolving into fits of giggles and yelling 'mummy farted, smmmmmeeeeellllllliiiiieee'

Even when DS farts, she blames me.

We need to get a dog

NotBigJustBolshy · 13/11/2008 13:08

I have a dd and ds who are obsessed with the words poo, willy and bum and find them hilarious. But as I never grew out of this stage myself, the "hilarity" generally results from me singing well-known songs but slightly changing some of the words... (Yes, I realise this is v. v. sad for someone in their mid-forties)

MumtoCharlieandLola · 13/11/2008 13:41

Well actually, NBJB, I suppose in that case I could be guilty of encouraging them then. I do sometimes too change the lines, especially the Balamory - I'm PC Plum, I've got a smelly bum song.

Perhaps that is my answer.

NotBigJustBolshy · 13/11/2008 17:37

Phew, MumtoCharlieandLola, at least I'm not the only one

LadyBabo · 13/11/2008 23:06

Bum is bum, or even a bum-bum (?!)
A fart is a trump, or even a pump
Dd (2yrs) says 'oh my Bob' when in shock. Lol!

Dottoressa · 13/11/2008 23:09

We have bottoms and trumps in our house.

DS had a tedious phase in Y1 of calling everyone a poo-poo head and a widgy-head. Fortunately he has now got over that one, but was on about his "blasted homework" tonight, for which I fined him 5p!

wessexgirl · 13/11/2008 23:10

MumtoCharlieandLola, both of my girls are wildly obsessed with poo and wee at the moment, to the extent that 'shampoo' and 'seaweed' will make them snort and snurk.

(Not so much with the willy stuff though, for obvious reasons.)
