When do they stop putting everything in their mouths?

Gawd help me, but ds2 (10mo) is a hoover. Everything he can get his hands on, into the mouth it goes. We try hard to keep dangerous things out of reach obviously, but he also does a fine line in eating bits of paper from books, fluff from the carpet, mud, leaves from pot plants and of course there are all those tasty toys from ds1 (3) hanging around.

So when will it stop? Assume it must have been much the same w. ds1 but of course all our toys were age appropriate then (and house cleaner, too).

Oh, and ds1 was immobile at 10mo of course, whereas ds2 has been crawling since 7 mo ~(and to think we were happy when he started )

Dunno. Think of it this way. If he is eating dust bunnies and the like at least he is building up his immune system . DT1 is not too bad but DT2 will eat anything including slippers, newspapers, feet and carpet. It's like having a destructive puppy. Tehy are 10 months.

My 4.6 year old DS is still like this.

My nearly 13mth old is, I think, starting to feel things much more with his hands. They used to go straight in his mouth. So, whilst things do tend to get 'tasted', it doesn't seem to be for as long.
Maybe I am just hoping ...

TeenyTinyTorya · 12/11/2008 21:44

My 20mth old has stopped eating everything apart from food and crayons. It does end eventually!

I found it stoppped when DS started walking instead of crawling...I feel your pain though.

Louandben - that's interesting. Ds1 never crawled, just sat around being waited on, then walked. Whilst ds2 (nsc - sorry but I love that term)both crawls and has to make his own entertainment...

uberalice - noooo, can't have another 4 years of this.

DS2 is now 15 months and is just starting to get the hang of the fact that not everything has to go in his mouth. I think they do get there eventually!

PerkinWarbeck · 13/11/2008 14:06

DD is 20mo and shows no sign of stopping!

rempy · 13/11/2008 14:06

21 month old still puts things in her mouth when hungry.

The phrase "thats not food" is wearing thin.

littlestrawberry · 13/11/2008 14:09

DS1 always did this, he's now 6 and can still often be found with a piece of lego between his lips

He does it without realising.
