just dropped DS off at school then had to return 15 mins later with his book bag which we'd left at home. found him clustered in front of the computer in the corner playing some mindless game, egged on by his mates. by this time it was ten past nine - no great signs of the school day starting. er - that's not what i send him to school for! am i being a hopeless fogey?? i had a word with the classroom assistant (teacher nowhere in sight) and she said this only happened 'some' mornings. i remain unconvinced!
what do your kids do when they get dropped off into reception/year 1? my DD is in year three and there is no question of this sort of thing going on (she was in a different school at DS's stage). DS's teacher is a bit flappy and seems chronically flustered and perhaps just doesn't know how to handle boys - there are more boys than girls in his class and she seems to constantly change the behaviour rules and try different techniques to 'contain' them (rather like me at home ) which we parents struggle sometimes to keep up with. they are not especially unruly at all, and the class size is only 20. any teachers out there - your views especially welcome! cheers girls x

Are you sure it was a mindless game?

hmm good point. i admit i didn't stick around to get a really close look...definitely not an obviously educational one though, and looked more like aliens getting bopped than a nice mathematical or word game one!! flashing lights, green monsters chasing across the screen, rapid space bar action...i am pretty suspicious to be honest. but maybe school computers aren't 'allowed' to access games (or am i being hopelessly optimistic/naive?!)

Some of the maths & English games (word Shark & Maths Base IIRC) they have at DSs school have "proper" games as rewards for completing the tasks. I think.
