Oh yes, my DD is 18 months and she can clearly say yes and no but still shakes her head sometimes when she actually means yes. About 15 months she only said 'no' then took the proferred item anyway. My Father (who is stuck in the dark ages when children should be seen and and not heard but don't get me started as it will be a whole new ranting thread) said 'why does she say no to everything'... my answer? 'Because she has not learnt to say yes yet'.

It will come, 15 months still very early. Try teaching him to nod, it worked for us now she nods and says 'jess' ... bless them.

he is very little. I wouldn't worry.
Just make sure you use the right word when talking to him and he will get it.
Don't try and teach him. Trying to teach children to apeak just makes them anxious and that is more likely to inhibet rather than encourage speech.
Just talk with him. he will get it

I think no is an easier sound for them to say so it often comes first. Babbling is the start of speech and they all acquire that at diffrent ages. You will meet parents whose children talk before yours and you will meet parents (like me with dd1 - whose child says practically nothing for years!) As long as he is communicating with you and you've no concerns about his hearing he will be fine - try not to worry.

My 15 month old shakes his head and says nope when I ask him if he wants something but then clearly leans forward reaching out for the item he suposidly doesn't want

I'm not worried though, he's learning all the time and it will come in time.
