She has always hated bibs since she was a baby and would pull it off so I hadn't bothered. But I have had enough of staining and ruining of her clothes. I just got sillybillyz bibs with sleeves and this morning, she threw a huge (HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEE, as if she was being drowned.. or dying...) tantrum when I try to put it around her. How can I put it on without tantrum....???? HELP!!!!! HELP!!

Is she the same when you dress her or is it just bibs?

fourlittlefeet · 08/11/2008 11:58

we use different tea towels over her lap as she doesn't like the classic bibs either. we also have these cloth ring ones with an elastic hole in the middle, which she doesn't mind as much. Are you using those rigid plasic things?

SoupDragon · 08/11/2008 12:01

Clothes are just clothes and stuff like tomato stains come out if you leave the item in the sun (even faint sun will do)

she throws tantrum just with her bibs. She doesn't like tea towels or napkins either. I got silly billyz because they are soft like cloth and it's very comfortable around the neck. clothes are just clothes but I'm fed up with dressing her in one outfit and having to change the top (and the bottom sometimes) at least three times a day chasing after her and then having to wash so many clothes that haven't even been worn but just wet from all those messy eating (she is dreadfully messy when she eats). any ideassssss....I'm going to try wearing one when I eat with her..maybe it might work..

She won't die if her top is dirty.

If she only makes a fuss with bibs, buy some next-size-up cheap t shirts and designate them as bibs.

mumnosbest · 08/11/2008 12:14

iF SHE DOESN'T MIND CLOTHES, COULD YOU TRY An old top that she wears at meal times in place of a bib?(sorry bout CAPS, little fingers!)

PavlovtheCat · 08/11/2008 12:16

Keep a couple of old t-shirts for her to wear.

DD never liked bibs and I never found a way of getting her to wear anything like it without her screaming the place down until she figured out how to pull it off/over her head or however she could. It was so stressful I just dealt with the stained clothes, and made sure I put a dirty/stained one on her over what she was wearing. For some reason she was fine with this.

We use old clothes instead of bibs, she has 2 or 3 which came from a boot sale (already stained).

what about when you go out to eat??

okay fine, I will get some big old t shirts.. why don't they like bibs? I'm so tired now we had four tantrums over it this morning. So I'm going to give up.

Maybe as she gets a little older she might be more tolerant.

SoupDragon · 08/11/2008 12:41

Sew the bibs onto the Tshirts.

Suedonim · 08/11/2008 12:42

At home, feed her in just a nappy? That's what my neighbour does with her ds.

cyphercat · 08/11/2008 12:44

haha soupdragon..that's what I thought after she gave me the evil tantrum for the fourth time,, sew it onto her hair...I did strip her off..but as our house is sooooo cold and DH looks at me like I'm some kind of monster if I do that I might invest in old t shirt.

When we sat down to eat with our children we made a huge over the top fuss off putting on napkins/bibs ourselves and left her out, pretended to be French waiters etc, well she soon wanted to join in after a couple of sessions of this daftness, might work!!

superloopy · 08/11/2008 12:53

Could you try getting her an apron maybe? Less bib like but it may still protect her clothes.

My DS 11mo is very anti bib - he rips them of at the first chance so I try to keep him in dark coloured clothes if his food is likely to stain.

Suedonim · 08/11/2008 13:01

Tie a teatowel around your neck too, so she wants to cope you?

Suedonim · 08/11/2008 13:02

Or even copy you.

cyphercat · 08/11/2008 21:44

great idea. Fallen down by great flu....so will try this next week. Thank you very much.
