I have a 2 1/2 year old girl. She goes to nursery 2 days a week. We live in surrey. She speaks really well but has this awful kate nash like accent. I am assuring my husband that it's just because she's still learning how to speak but am worried that she's picking up on the girls accents at the nursery.

Has anyone else experienced this?

This is a funny thread!

My dd1 (now 8) used to speak like a proper little brummie, eg - in ridiculous rising and falling tone - "oh look at the baaaybooie" (that's baby) she now has a kind of mish mash of brummie (me) and south african (dh) and posh bits that she learnt from her babysitter and/or hermione grainger.

She still hasn't decided whether a bath is a bath or a barth if you get me...

I do think that Kate Nash accent is annoying though, sympathies!

BreevandercampLGJ · 06/11/2008 23:05

We refuse to answer DS if we feel he is being lazy in his diction. We keep saying pardon, his diction is improving.

It is very wearing for us, but it works.

My daughter has a Somerset accent - she's never been there and we haven't visited Somerset since 1997 and that was for a week.

pointydog · 06/11/2008 23:18

so what? Really. so what

Lotster · 06/11/2008 23:33

I bet you're short.

cory · 07/11/2008 10:22

All part of letting go, isn't it? In the long run, your dd will have to decide for herself what accent she wants to retain. You can work on her diction, but eventually there will be all sorts of outside influences on her.

Rollergirl1 · 07/11/2008 22:14

Lotster, stop trying to be my friend.

I love my dds' northern accents, particularly the baby (15 months) - i think its great ...and v v cute

I'm really not fond of RP and love to hear local accents.

Lotster · 08/11/2008 17:46

Short arse.

Least she can say her r's.
