Trembling chin in 7 month old

DS is 7 months and on 3 occasions we have noticed his chin quivering for a few seconds. I'm not unduly worried and a Google search hasn't really brought up anything significant. Does anyone know what this could be?

Are you sure it's his chin? DS does this too and it is actually his tongue, mostly when he has a dummy in and he's nodding off, sometimes when his dummy has fallen out and he is sucking an imaginary dummy!
In his case, it's definitely dummy love, he doesn't do it to his bottle.
I can't imagine it is anything at all to worry about, perhaps just a new sensation for your DS

Does he do it when waking up?

DD used to. Oh and when she was weeing!

Gangle · 01/11/2008 17:16

thanks both. It's definitely his chin and is quivers very quickly for a few seconds. Doesn't seem to be when he has just woken and it's a different motion to sucking on an imaginary boob/dummy (he also does that!)

There have been other threads about it. It's like a juddering. DD did and still does it occasionally. I think the general consensus is, it's one of those inexplicable baby things.

As long as he's okay immediately afterwards and isn't upset by it, I wouldn't worry.

I believe that quivering chin (as it is called) is due to an immature immune system - try googling for 'quivering chin' and perhaps you'll find some more information..

My friend's DS does this - looks like he's shivering even when he's not cold, he's done it since he was tiny. My friend thinks one of the reasons he does it is when he's nervous - ie. with someone he doesn't know.

thanks all. Did Google and found out a little bit. He just seems to do it very randomly - not really when cold or tired. So glad it seems that there is nothing to worry about.

Hello . Do you finally understand the cause of your son's chin tremor? My son has exactly the same problem and I am very worried

MarHer · 23/12/2023 00:18

Wondering if you found any more information on this? Thanks!

@MarHer you might need to try an @ to get the OP's attention. The "LO" is probably a strapping 16 yo by now Wink
