How old were your children when they first shared a room?

I'm having my second baby in March when the first will be about 20 months...am just beginning to wonder about the logistics!

Please let me know how old your 'baby' was when he or she went into the same room as his/her elder sibling, and how well it worked?

Am in a minor panic that I'll have to have the baby in our room for a year or something!

Any tips/advice/reassurance very gratefully received!

My dd was about 10 months and ds 3ish. Basically as soon as I felt comfortable with her leaving my room. They share a room so the 3rd can be a play/junk room. Works great, ds sleeps better because he's looking after his sister and when they wake up early neither cries out for me, they play around the cot a bit till I'm up. Occasionally dd wakes ds up but not too often, he's got used to her and sleeps through if she wakes in the night.

DD1 was about 3 and DD2 was 1.

dd2 was about 18m when we moved her in with dd1 so that the nursery was free for dd3 ... There were a few nights of dd2 chatting loudly to dd1, who eventually had her head under the pillow, then she settled down really well.

Thanks ladies...so is it common for the elder child not to be too disturbed by a crying younger sibling?

mumnosbest..do your two share a cot?

dd1 was 4 and dd2 was about 10 months. They still share now and are 7 and almost 4. DD1 was never bothered about dd2 being there - but dd2 never really cried at night (brilliant sleeper from beginning thank god!) about to swap dd1 for dd3 though as age gap too big

lol no but my ds frequently climbs in to play with sister first thing in the morning. it's right at the end of his bed so easy to climb over, just hope he doesn't teach her to climb out!
