I've always assumed she is too young.

What age do most children start watching TV and has dd been missing out?

agree with Pd DD will be 2 in Dec and watches loads (at her request) - she loves it and talks for ages about certain programmes, learns new words, concepts and laughs. We also read and do groups but TV is a big part of her life tbh she gets a lot of enjoyment and relaxation from it. Soon she will be a nursery so will watch less. I don't see a problem at all as long as it's not plonking them all day with no other activities...

im not saying that anyone suggested that, but i just wanted to add to the conversation. tv is no evil really, its just how you use it and for what. like most of things in life.

my baby watches baby einstein dvds since she was few weeks old and now that she is 15 months old she points to her favorite things and talks about it (i have no idea what). she also imitates the noises that she likes most.

from the 24 dvds, she has her favorite part that is a monkey coming out of a box and making a funny sound while shaking his head. the whole thing lasts 1/2 minutes tops, but she knows when its coming up few moments before and try to copy him.

as a health visitor said, its a good nanny while i have a cup of tea.

DD 5.5 mths loves tv . She watches ITNG for a few mins before her morning nap, a few mins before her lunch nap and a few mins around 5ishpm while I get stuff ready for the bath. I also put it on to distract her when I am putting on her coat as she hates that.

I don't see the problem as long as she is not in front of it all day.

She has also had storybook time twice a day since she was about 8wks and loves books. She plays with lots of toys and goes out every afternoon to visit people.

Everything in moderation.

We allow our ds to watch telly once a day for "bob the builder" (he's 9 months this week), he loves it and if we sing the theme tune he gets excited

hullygully · 28/10/2008 22:23

Give her a fruit shoot and introduce her to the night garden

TeenyTinyTorya · 29/10/2008 21:33

Ds doesn't watch telly (he's 19mths). I do have it on occasionally throughout the day, but he doesn't watch it, and it's never a children's programme. It would be a waste of time, because he wouldn't sit still to watch it. He spends hours drawing or looking at books, but will not look at the TV. He has enjoyed 10 minutes of a nature programme on DVD though, as he loves lions. I don't think your dd is missing out.

MrsBick · 29/10/2008 22:09

jabuti- you sound like me.my ds watches a baby einstein after breakfast whilst i'm tiding up. he enjoys it and always recognises the intro.
everything in moderation me thinks.

RottenOtter · 29/10/2008 22:12

mine dont watch tv as such but do watch dvds

personally i do not agree with screening and try to let dcs do as little as possible

dvds are good cos as parents we choose what they watch - well broadly speaking as we boufgt the dvds

i would refrain as long as youcan

BexieID · 30/10/2008 17:56

I only started putting CBeebies on for Tom back in January. The only TV he would have experienced before that was what we watched. He likes the BBC news countdown music and the Eastenders theme. Oh and the vroom vrooms when the F1 is on, lol.

fledtoscotland · 30/10/2008 21:58

DS1 has only just started taking an interest in the TV (he's 14months) and loves CBEEBIES "where's BOO" and points shouting "BOO" at the TV. he also likes tweenies and tries to dance with them

all for about 5mins then he's off to cause havoc somewhere else.

I dont think theres a right or wrong age - its the content thats more important. Our TV is only for for about an hr in the mornings for the news and CBEEBIES and then after DS1 has gone to bed so he doesnt have much exposure to in and consequently isnt really that interested - he'd rather eat the remote control
