almost like in a nervous tick way.

Sorry to hear this, I'm no help but thought I would bump it for you. Is there any chance she has an ear infection or something? How long has she been doing this? Are there any other unusual things she does? It could just be that she likes doing it; lots of toddlers have funny little habits.

Does she understand other words? My first thought would be about her hearing too.

if its just now and again dont worry. dd2 went through a little phase of this. she had just learnt to do it and like practising! if it's constant maybe get it checked out

Ah - my DD1 did this. She's now 23mnths and still says NO a lot! Stopped the head shaking though I think she just liked the feeling of being slightly dizzy. Plus it's probably a word she's started hearing quite a bit and knows it has impact!

i think she is practicing too. mine did it on and off for few weeks and stopped. it didnt look like a nervous tick, it looked like she was saying no (mainly when she heard us saying the word casually in conversations). im giving details so you can have an idea. now she likes spinning and getting dizzy from it, she is 15 months old.

has she just learned to shake her head? when ds first mastered it he did it all the time - it was just practising a new skill i think and didnt appear to mean no (that came soon enough...)
stopped after a few days when he got bored
when she does it does she look at you or grin or anything? ds did and that's usually a sign it is a new trick they are proud of and want you to admire. if she looks miserable while doing it then i would get her ears checked for infection etc in case somethingi s bothering her.
