DS is having his MMR today but he had a sickness bug last week, i think he is pretty much over this now but he is still not back to eating his usual food - he only wants to eat bland food like porridge, anything more makes him throw up. Do you think I should postpone his MMR or will he be alright to have it today. I have called and asked the nurse but she said it was my choice...mmmmm that's not so helpful!!

It's very much a personal decision - BUT - there is some thinking that a child who is already working his/her immune system with a bug MAY get overloaded by having the MMR.

DD is due hers, and I keep getting reminders, but she has had bugs too, and I want her to be as fit as can be when she has it.

Part of me knows that this is irrational and that she'll be fine.

There is to rational reason to delay it, we are all exposed to thousands of foreign antigens every day, a few extra in the MMR will not make any difference.
But on the other hand, you are the one who has to live with the decision you make, so if your doubts make you unconfortable with it then maybe worth delaying it, for your own peace of mind. Obviously your DS isnt protected till he has it. Its a mine field isnt it.

I'm only uncomfortable with it as I don't know the consequences of if he has it while slightly under the weather. If it is going to make him feel even worse then i will postpone it but If being not 100% doesn't make a difference to the effectiveness of the jab and also will not make him feel any worse that he is I will go ahead.

I think that a lot of kids feel a bit bad after the MMR, but that could happen regardless of when he has it.
I was really surprised by how well my kids were after they had the MMR, I was all prepared for them to be ill, but you wouldnt have known that they had even had it.
Do you know how long he would have to wait for the next appointment if you did postpone? My DD had to postpone one of her appointments (possibly the hib booster?) and it was about 6 months before she got another appointment.

I would postpone until he had been fully well for at least a week.....My Dr will not vaccinate unless the child is 100% well....

My ds was foul after his MMR jab but was well before hand. I'd wait til he's on top form as it will probably make him feel rubbish anyway and he could do with a week or two to have fun and feel strong before he has it, especially if he's been feeling crap or a while. Only my opinion though. I know when ds was having his 4 month jabs I phoned the doctor for advice as he had a cold and they said it was best to wait til he was feeling better but that might not be the case for the MMR
