I really don't want to sound gloaty, because I'm not, am just wondering if it's quite early...

for DS1 (who is 26 months tomorrow) to be able to count from 2-8 perfectly?

Please don't flame me, am not being smug - I just want to know if that is quite young? I'm not for one minute claiming he is a genius, as he seems totally incapable of learning not to throw his food all over the floor...

bohemianbint, i was the same, DS1 was a bit of late talker (compared to his local peers) and so I was amazed when he could count to 14 a few months ago.

Strangely he now says 1, 2, 8, 9 etc missing out 3-7.

He is though definitely doing it as reciting, he can only count 4 objects.

I could read topsy and tim at 2 1/2 (my mum used to think it was reciting until she bought me a new one and I proceeded to read it)... it was downhill after that!!

ds is similar, 27months, has a fasination with 6,7,8,9 but forgets the rest even though he has counted 1-10. Ask him to count his button though and it suddenly becomes 1,3,6,7,8,9 even though there is 4!

Quite normal I think. He has started to watch 'maths channel' in the mornings but don't think he takes any of it in!

ds1 also did nice early perfect counting then spent several months dropping numbers from the sequence, which sort of made my brain itch inside when he did. was glad when they came back.

my favourite brainy baby thing is when i have ds2 aged 6 mths in the top of the phil and teds and ds aged 3.3 in the bottom. people who are familiar with the way the pram stacks the kids hear these coherent sentences coming from what looks like a baby. tis a laugh to see their faces.

'aren't familiar' i meant

I can't remember the older two but ds3 could definitely count to 10 at that age, if not more - mainly from playing games, hide and seek etc and because I was always doing this kind of thing with his older brothers so he just picked it up from them.

At age 3 and in nursery he could count beyond 60 reliably - again, I think just because he has picked up things from his brothers.

I don't think it's that unusual though.
