Not Drinking Milk / Time for solids?

Hi,

In the last 10 days our 4 .5 month old boy has lost interest in milk and no longer takes his complete feeds. (Whether formula or breast)
Up until 2 weeks ago, he used to drink the 'suggested' amount but not anymore. He just has a taster of about 40mls rather then the 180-210ml he used to drink.

As well as this, from sleeping through the night; 8pm to 5.30am he has gone back to waking at 1am, 4am and 5.30am.

Our health visitor and GP have said to delay weaning/solids until 6 months old. But friends have said he may be ready for a new taste in his mouth?

Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks

Hi Woolsh - could it be that he's now just more distracted by the world around him, and sitting still to take a feed is too boring. He's maybe then making up for it at nighttime when it's dark and quiet and nothing distracting him. Might be worth trying to feed him during the day in a dark quiet room if possible and seeing if that has any effect??

My daughter is te same age and has days when she doesn't seem hungry. I give her a feed around 10:30pm, she seems to make up what she's missed during the day and sleep till 7/8am. On days when she eats normally she only takes a couple of ounces on the other days she necks the bottle.
Think she is getting more mobile and interested in her surroundings so can't be bothered with eating!
