Mmmm sounds fairly normal to me. My ds often cries and runs to me if he's had enough of daddy. He does the same with dh too though when he's had enough of me!

He sounds like he is just going through a bit of separation anxiety and is scared you will leave him as he now knows he is a totally seperate person from you whereas before (when they just ignored us!) they just assume we are part of them as we are always there.

Both of these stages are bloody frustrating for mummy though!

It's a phase.

Also expect it the other way round when they only want Daddy.

It passes.

bumbly my dd is the same age and can be very picky about who she wants.

This morning she actually growled at me when I tried to take her away from her daddy!

It only seems yesterday that I was the one she wanted - it changes each day!

She does get very clingy with me if she's been ill. When she's hurt it seems that mummy is best.

seperation anxiety - your LO is just starting to realise/recognise that she is a little being that is not an extension of you, becoming aware of the difference between you and her.

This means she is more likely to feel anxious at certain times, when that realisation feels strongest, and means that when others, in particular those close to you both (ie your DH/her daddy) are around at that time, she may feel that seperation more keenly.

On the plus side, this recognition of her being not part of you means she will also start to flourish and become much more sociable, and her personality will develop immensely over the next few months. But while she is learning to be 'more independent' she will want you right by her side more than she did when she thought she was part of you.

It is a tough phase, but it is nothing you or her daddy are doing. Easier said than done, but just remind your DH that it is not personal, and before he knows it, she will not stop jumping on his belly at 6am in the morning.

Sorry I presumed he was a she, as you did not say in OP, and as I have a girl, just related to that!!! .

LIZS · 05/10/2008 12:13

is he better - was a bit worried not to have "seen" you around recently after your last posts. Perfectly normal to switch allegance as they develop a better understanding of their own and others' identity.

Just wanted to add that my ds glares at anyone who comes in the house and never wants to be picked up byy anyone but me or daddy. He is definitely having a 'daddy' day today and hasn't left his side. Totally the oposite yesterday, I'm sure it's normal!
