She finally learned to jump!

DD1 has been a bit slow with physical milestones, crawled at 11 months, walked at 19 months and has just now learned to jump at 2.4!

She's so pleased with herself. At gymboree yesterday she was jumping with the other kids with a huge smile on her face. She can't quite hop, each jump is quite an effort, but both her feet leave the floor!

The first time it happened I almost cried. How's that for PFB?

what age is "normal" for learning to jump? DD was also rather slow - crawl 11m, walk 17m and has recently got to grips with jumping at 21m and still not great when not holding onto someone or something. She too is soooo pleased with herself. A friend's DS was jumping by 12m which everyone marvelled at much to her surprise as PFB so didnt know unusual.

Don't know what normal is but all her peers have been jumping forever. 21 months is pretty good, sounds like your dd is doing great!

ha ha, my DD is 3 and she probably only "got air" about a month ago - yes, I nearly cried too. I have been so worried about her - he has hypermobility in her limbs so although she crawled very early (5.5 months) and walked at 13 months, she has been falling flat on her face practically every day since. Am just debating whether to take her back to a specialist - interesting that there's a few threads around on this subject at the moment - making me think I need to pick up the phone and make an appt

Hooray for your DD, JoyS! Mine only managed it at getting on for three and a half! She is now 3.9 and her jumps are still quite small and flat-footed, but she is terribly pleased with herself in a cautious and careful way!

ds only just worked it out 2.5 and still doesn't always manage a proper jump. He crawled at 6 motnhs and walked at 12 though so just very late with the jumping thang

sycamoretree my DD falls down all the time. She trips over her own feet--she'll just be walking along and Splat! Interestingly, she's much better at dealing with the falls than her friends who are more stable, just gets up and keeps going.

More pfb confessions: I actually wrote on her nursery info form that she isn't very steady and falls down a lot.

Maenad, it is so nice to see them happy when they 'get' something like jumping! DD had a sort of shocked look when she first did it.

Oh Joy, that post really made me smile. I also made a point of telling the nursery teachers she was a bit of a bambi legs . Interestingly, she is also good at dusting herself of. In fact, she often shouts "I'm fine!" before I can even ask. Bless. But I was watching her running (ahem) down our road the other day and I could see that as she flung her right leg forward, it literally landed in front of her oncoming left leg - in an instant I could see why she is always tripping - her own feet are getting in the way of each other. Harumph. Specialist said last time there was nothing actually wrong with her hips or anything, just loose ligaments which should tighten up with age etc.
