How long can it take for a tooth to come through?

My 11 mth DS has, for the last 3 weeks, had very bad nappies / rash (up to 8 times a day!), hot red spotty cheeks, unsettled at night and hard biting on things.
He hasn't got any teeth as of yet, but I wanted to ask, how long does this period of teething symptoms last for each tooth? His gums look and feel the same.
Also, can late teethers experience worse symptoms?
Feels like this has been going on forever!

Ds tended to teeth for weeks on end, then suddenly stop.
It will pass, I promise!

so might i not see a tooth at the end of this tunnel for a while?
from a mum keen for her near toddler to get some gnashers

DS teethed from 6 months but didn't get a tooth til 8 months! He still slept well but he was very grouchy in the day, messyt nappies, red blotchy cheeks and drooling for Britain. He got 2 teeth at the same time and since then they have come through steadily, he has 8 teeth now at 13 months. The symptoms often just stop and then start all over again! DS gums never got swollen or red, always just looked the same until one day the teeth appeared as grey looking lines under the gum and next day there were 2 gleaming white teeth just poking out. It does seem to take forever though!

Not the same thing - but DD started getting her back molar (adult) at one visit to the dentsit & it wasn't properly through by our next visit (6 months later)

You might find they all come in in quick sccession (eventually!)

Dds longest teething spell lasted four months (sorry) but several teeth came through at once - poor little thing. She's now got the full set and we are so grateful. I did think at one point I would have to take out shares in Neurofen!

DS started dribbling excessively and red cheeks at 4 months! 7 months later, still no teeth! Mind you, it has only been last few weeks we've had the most rancid nappies ever.
Thank you all for replying. I hope they do come in succession, cos it feels like I've been told he's teething for months and months and months from well meaning relatives.
