Ugh! I truly hate the park at the moment. DD is very headstrong at 17 months. She has to go on the slide NOW the swing NOW the climbing frame NOW NOW NOW. As she is still very wee I obviously have to help her up.... this is where it all goes horribly wrong.

I make the truly STUPID mistake of picking her up before it is her turn. Obviously then she flies into a complete paddy and starts to try and hit me as she perceives I am holding her back from what she wants. I am obviously very stupid as this is a regular occurence (sp?)

Picture the scene, DD decides she wants to go on the merry-go-round so we go and pay our 50p but then we have to wait for it to finish and stop so we can get on..tantrum.. we finally climb on with DD choosing the attractive pink 2 seater sports car which most post-partum bum is NEVER going to it in. However, we squish in much to her annoyance that I am in too... tantrum... off we go but DD won't keep still, picture an eel on a merry-go-round if you will.. so she slips and bashes her sore mouth (k9 teeth coming too).. tantrum.. then the ride stops and she really looses it..... sadly so do I, it has all been too much and my forced calm turns into park banshee.

Not my proudest moment.

Now feel hideous, how can the book make it sound so easy when in practice the last thing you feel like doing is saying, calmly yet firmly, no darling, we don't hit other people do we? It hurts..... or try to scratch out Mummy's eyes for that matter.

Sob.

Oh, kids can be very trying at times.
I had a shit day last week with ds (2.2) in town and could hear myself losing it with him as if from outside myself! It happens to everyone. It does sound like you had an especially crap visit to the park.

nickytwotimes · 27/09/2008 19:48

OH, and have a wee sherry. It is the cure for all ails.

BlueBumedFly · 27/09/2008 19:51

see BBF grab the sherry...<

It was truly hideous, and in my temper I trod on my sun glasses so we drove back with DD screaming and me squinting.... must admit I did shed a small tear, was seriously angry at her any me. Bad bad mother.

Oh dear BBF - you sound just like me after I took DD out to the park last week!!

My DD a similar age to yours and sounds v similar.

She wanted to climb on a climbing frame with steep drops on either side. I held onto her just in case she fell - BIG tantrum.

So I take her off the climbing frame - tantrum.

She wanted to go on the swing. Then she wanted to go on a different swing (which is identical to the one she's already on), then she wanted to go back on the original swing -REPEAT X 10!!!!

THen she did't want to go back in her buggy to go home - tantrum!

ARGH!!!

It's hard isn't it. You have my sympathies

BlueBumedFly · 27/09/2008 20:05

PP - we have the same child!!! Can I interest you in a small glass of sherry?

I've just screamed at my kids 'NO! You can't sit next to me and you are SPOILING my programme!" Because they are arguing during Strictly! I'm not remotely embarrassed!

mabanana · 27/09/2008 20:06

Kids are bloody annoying, aren't they?

BlueBumedFly · 27/09/2008 20:07

LOL mabanana! Sounds like something I would say....

PeppermintPatty · 27/09/2008 20:34

I'd LOVE a glass of sherry right now, unfortunately I'm not allowed to drink ATM

BlueBumedFly · 27/09/2008 20:39

Poor you... see BBF pouring her second glass to commiserate....

mabanana, too right! - mine are always ruining the perfect family days I try to have, little bs! Not so much the Waltons with a dose of Country Living, more the bleedin' Simpsons, even on a good day. Unfortunately for the kids, dh and I are both Homer, no Marge

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 27/09/2008 20:50

me another mum had schronised screaming banshee traffic light moments earlier.

Me: dd come on the green man is on. dd! dd what are you doing? DD

other mum: come on across the road, stop playing with your bike. stop that. STOP IT NOW

cue that knowing look and wry smile as we pass each other on the road. followed by another simulatenous ranting on the dangers of being silly near busy roads

BlueBumedFly · 27/09/2008 21:27

I was feeling so much better... just caught the end of SuperNanny and now feel rubbish again.

How exactly do you project your voice with a deep commanding tone without actually just yelling?

Live in a different house 2 days a week, I reckon Blue - not sure, but I bet it helps if you're getting paid and filmed too
