DS was late to be trained at night and we did not remove his nightime nappy till he was nearly 5. It is now 6 months down the road and we are stil lifting him for a wee at 11pm so he will be dry all night. I have had a couple of people telling me that he will get used to this and this will delay him being able to sleep through the night without needed a wee. Any tips for stopping this would be welcome or even commets from anyone who did this and it has not caused a problems later on.

what happens if you don't lift him?

savoycabbage · 26/09/2008 13:49

We have been doing this for about a year. Our dd will wee in her sleep and then sleep until morning if we don't take her. She wouldn't wake up if she was wet or cold so we are just taking her. We tried not giving her drinks but that didn't make any difference.

If we don't lift him he wets the bed or wakes up about 5 to go to the toilet and does not go back to sleep which makes him really tired at school.

are you doing the stuff about having no brown, red or purple drinks? and packing in lots of drinks during the day? and frequent wees during the day? tricky to control i guess seeing he's at school. but i think that's what's recommended.

OneLieIn · 26/09/2008 17:55

Ruddy, what do you mean no brown/red/purple??

ruddynorah · 26/09/2008 17:57

like no ribena, no hot chocolate, basically no coloured drinks. i will look for link.

We had to lift DS2 until he was about 6.5 years of age and it has only been this last 8 months or so he has finally stopped bedwetting, it got less and less over the months. He will be 9 in November.

Funnily enough, he got himself dry at the age of 18 months - said no to nappies and that was it - wanted to wear big boys pants like his brother and it went like a dream.

Honestly, he will do it when he is ready.

I use (to be on the safe side) a pampers bed thing underneath his sheet.

googled a bit found lots but this is very clear.

Thank you everyone, Did not know about coloured drinks, he mainly drinks water so don't think that is the problem but I guess we will need to see ow it goes without lifting him.
