Haircut!

Hi my friend has taken her 2.5yr old boy to try to get his haircut and just ended up giving up! no amount of bribery or persuasion would do it and he just didnt want to know! He has always been like this.

Anybody got any good ideas for getting him to sit to get his haircut?

Do it at home with clippers - much easier and they soon learn that it isn't that bad .

My DS who is now 3.5 used to scream the place down and get in a right tizzy. We bought hair clippers in the end, not as drastic as it sounds! Dh now cuts his own hair with the help of ds then dh clips ds' hair on a grade 7 (so he doesn't look like a criminal!) I hold up the mirror so DS can see whats going on and that stops him getting too upset. Maybe worth a try? It's also saved us a small fortune!

I read to my DS1 (3y5m) while he's getting his hair cut, and promise him a special treat (sticker, normally) if he does well.

I don't let them wash his hair, or blow-dry it, and I tell the hairdresser, "I'd rather have a fast haircut than a great one."

There are hairdressers who specialise in cutting kids hair, or who are at least more experienced ...

Hmmm....I think ds3 could do with one of these 'Specialists'. I tried a bit of home hairdressing and he ended up looking like a pineapple

Anybody know any incredibly patient/tolerant hairdressers in Essex/Suffolk area?

We(we dh!) do the clippers - ds is 19m. Add one favourite video, some food and we strapped him in his highchair. A few tears but they passed, and the result is so cute! :0

My DS (2.5) used to kick up such a stink whenever I took him to have his haircut (by a 'proper' kids' hairdresser). Then, recently DH took him to the barbers with him and DS sat there like an angel, even giggling when the barber got the clippers out to do the back of his hair. Needless to say, haircuts are now DH's territory.
Now DS even asks me to pretend to cut his hair.

Ds goes with dh - dh has his done, then ds has his. He sits absolutely still, partly in terror it has to be said!

I have always taken dd to a kids haircutter (based in a toy/clothing shop). Initially she was very resistant (screamed and wriggled), but we overcame it eventually. I always made a point to bring some of her favourite small toys/books from home so that she could play with them during the haircut. But, the thing that helped most was if I sat in the hairdresser's chair and held dd on my lap. Somehow she seemed to feel safer/more secure and would allow her hair to be cut without complete and utter hysterics.

My top tip is send him with his dad! Apart from it getting me out of it, ds loves doing stuff with dh and will sit like a little angel, particularly if dh has his done at the same time (whereas last time I took him we got 'tell that lady she mustn't cut my hair').

DD goes to my hairdressers but she just stands in front of my hairdresser sort of between her knees. H/D says it's a lot less stressful for kids than sitting in this big chair where everyone is behind them. Also the junior lets her sweep up with a kids size brush they keep to smuse children, as she gets it done for nothing I think this is their way of getting their money's worth
