Hi
Wondered if any one can help, just that my kitchen cupboard will pop with all the different cups I have tried to get my DD to use. She is 2.2
She loves her bottle, and was having it in the morning with Juice, would drink loads of it, anyway I have been trying to get her to drink from different cups, she does but not the same amount.
Any ideas, I know its not a problem, but just want to her to drop the bottle with Juice, she still has milk one at night.
Thanks, and if any one needs a cup or two............!!! ha Boop x

Does she actually need all that juice? I know they need fluid at all ages but if you just bin the bottle, and tell her she's a big girl now she drinks out of a cup, she'll probably just drink what she needs - ie much less than you've been used to her drinking. Does that make sense? She'll drink when she's thirsty.

I would just bin the bottle for juice. If she drinks from a cup she'll be fine even if she's not having as much...she'll get used to it. Im sorry and I'll probably get slated for my honesty but 'juice in a bottle' is a pet hate of mine, think of your DD's teeth!

Thanks Ladies, I also hate juice in a bottle hense why I have hidden them, and just giving her one of the many cups!! And I guess your are right, I am use to her drinking loads from a bottle and its me that has to get use to her just drinking what she needs xxx

Hi

Was wondering if anyone could help, i have twins 12 months old, and they will not take water, juice or anything from a cup or a bottle, in fact they do not like juice or water, they just love there bottles with milk in, am worried they will be dehydrated in the day, hence i think this was down to me not introducing the cup until 10 months, a bit concerned as dont want them on the bottles much longer, anyone any advice !!
Thanks

my advice- just bin the bottles. eventually they wil be thirsty enoiugh to drink from something else. needing a drink at bedtime is somethign people seem to feel is essential- just keep some water around during the day and keep offering if they cant move to it themselves. they will take it eventually! i bribe my 3 yr old with an episode of peppa pig. she will drink quite a large amount of water during an episode or 2. a couple of sessions a day keeps her wee wee white (she doesnt understand clear!)

BlueberryPancake · 16/09/2008 18:53

keep a full cup of water around all day, so that she can play with it and eventually she will drink from it, and put no pressure on her to drink from it, just leave it lying around. and get her to give some water from a cup to her dolly. and stick to one cup, one color for water and one color for juice. That's what worked with DS1 and 2

DS hated to drink water at first but i just kept offering it to him in a tommee tippee cup and eventually he got used to it and will drink lots of water when he is thirsty. It did take about 4 months of continual offering. He would also drink out of a normal glass too if I held it to his mouth or a mineral water bottle.

Thanks for your suggestions, i leave the cups out for both of them all day, with water or juice in it but not interested, they will also take it from a normal glass when held to there mouth but they hardly seem to take anything, tonight i gave them there bottles with 5oz milk and 3oz water, just so they are getting some water, not sure wether i should of done that !!

What about buying them a mug with a favorite character on ?

LuLuBai · 16/09/2008 20:50

I did the same - left water cups around. DD (now 17 months) would point at them when she wanted them or just pick them up and take a sip.

Didn't intend to ever give her juice but relented. She rally likes drinking from a carton with a straw. But she will also drink water through a straw (or swig directly from the bottle if the mood takes her).

But really I wouldn't worry about them getting dehydrated. If fluid is available and they have some (whether it is milk, water, juice) I reckon they are unlikely to get dehydrated.

And Kristatwin - there is nothing wrong with 12 month old babies still having milk. My DD still has 2 bottles a day and many babies I know of the same age have 3.

Hooray he did it, now drinking water and juice out of a sippy cup, thankyou for all the great advice given, it was really helpful x

DD liked this Tommee Tippee beaker...
www.tommeetippee.co.uk/product/tip_it_up_beaker_9m_/
It is similar looking to a bottle and has a silicon spout. It helped her break her attachment to a bottle.

kristatwin · 28/09/2008 22:57

hi elenorrigby, i used the nuby with the silicone spout, now just need to master them drinking the milk out of it.
