How on earth do you deal with tantrums in a public place?! Is DS (two years and 4months) too young for that how to talk so your children listen thingy??

Took DS to the zoo this am. Had a lovely time but when it was time to go - meltdown. He wouldn't walk in the direction of the car despite me asking him.

In the end, I just picked him up and carted him to the car. He screamed, he headbanged me so hard I nearly cried, he tried to bite my shoulder etc. I put him down a few times to give him the opportunity to walk and behave, but he didn't....I really was at a loss to deal with it! I talked firmly, I shouted - nothing seems to have done the trick!!! Help!!

You make eye contact and give them a chance to stop, then strapped in the buggy and removed to sit in quiet place until calmed down.
Then explain what behaviour you didn't like.
Do this a few times and things will improve
You need to take control, be calm, firm and consistent.

I find that reclining the buggy or car seat as far flat as will go makes it easier to drop screaming plank of boy into it and apply straps with out having to bend him so much.

I'm not over gentle with him when hes in tantrum mode either, if he has to carried out of somewhere screaming then hes over my shoulder like a sack of spuds and be dammed what other peole think. like that he can't kick me as I have hold of his knees.

Lift and remove, lift and remove.

Firemans lift him - he can't kick or bite then

pick em up under your arm carry them to car - strap them in - dont talk - drive home

or depending on where you are - let them kick off.

sit and watch intently.

much more amusing than pretending they aren't doing it.
