Should I be worried?

DS is 7.5mo and seems to be a happy chap. We've recently visited a friend a couple of times, who is due to have her first baby, but she says that she thinks my lo has an attitude problem. I found this comment quite hurtful. She wasn't trying to be spiteful in any way but I'm now worried that my lo is not behaving the way a normal 7.5mo boy would behave.

Basically what my friend saw lo do was whilst I was feeding him his bottle he would stretch out his arms either side of him and flap them about in a general, relaxed kind of way, whilst doing this he would end up hitting my face. I reacted with a little "Ow", but he carried on whilst he was enjoying his feed. Also, whilst changing lo's nappy, he kicks out his legs and kicks us which can be a bit of a pain - we say "No" and he thinks it's funny and continues. My friend said to my lo not to come near her or her baby if he acts this way.

They're the only things I can remember right now. Is this commonplace amongst babies or boys even? I'm sure he's not aware of what he's actually doing is wrong, is he? Should I be trying to stop this now? Is it something he's picked up from the way we're bringing him up? Am I worrying over nothing??

Thanks

Sorry, ChocolateMouse, I know it's upsetting and worrying when this sort of thing happens to you and it's about your firstborn, but honestly this is HILARIOUS. Your DS sounds adorable. Enjoy him. All i can say about your friend is that I hope this is mad pregnancy syndrome and not representative of her normal personality.

So hilarious , she is clearly mad !
MY DD kicked all during my pregnancy and I mean might and day , kicked all day when born until 13 months (only stopped because she started to walk !)
She would simply kick her little legs like a swimmer doing the back stroke at every waking moment.
My GP laughed his head off at her , said she was clearly very happy with far too much energy !!
I swear I had to buy her new socks every week because she had kicked holes in the heels.
Enjoy your little one and keep him away from the mad woman with (looney) attitude !

FFS what a fool - my dd is only 4mths and loves kicking her feet and flapping her arms around. She is constantly whacking me in the face.

Apart from anything, she is a cow. Even if it was true, what a thing to say.

Boy is she in for a shock when she has her baby...

My 10 month old does exactly the same and totally normal as everyone says. He gets clumps of hair, pinches skin and 'hits', as well as arms and legs flailing everywhere. At this age, they have no clue of what is 'right' or 'wrong' and are just exploring their body and the world.
You sound like you are doing a fab job

BouncingTurtle · 13/09/2008 09:33

My 8.5mo is the same, kicking me when I change his nappy and often grabbibg handfuls of boob when feeding!!

There is absolutely nothing malicious in it as your friend is implying, she seriously needs to get a grip!
