...he will have to go for blood tests.

took ds to gp today as he is still not feeding well. i showed GP his little red book and told her he had only gained 6oz in 5 weeks.
she said to get him weighed at clinic next week and if he is on, or under, the 25th centile he will have to go the paediatrician for blood tests.

What are these blood tests? in my worried state of mind i didnt think to ask and the GP didnt say.

also if he's starting to be more active/mobile then the weight often drops off them then too. As long as he seems happy, healthy and nothing else has changed please don't worry.

Maybe he is dairy sensitive- my dd was like that with BF and I have reduced dairy in my diet and she is a different baby and now feeds absolutely fine every time. I am amazed but 100% convinced that's what it was!

Did you go to the GP because you are worried about him? If you were not getting him weighed, would you think there was a problem?

If you aren't concerned about his development, if he's a happy, healthy baby then I'm a bit surprised the GP mentions blood tests.

FWIW my LO went down from 98th to something silly around 9th - catch-down weight I think the Paed called it, she was 2 weeks overdue. Anyway, I knew she was fine, the paed checked her over and she knew she was fine. My GP referred me because as she put it "as a mother I know she is fine, as a GP the proceedure is to refer".

Check out the 'Little Acorns' thread, there are lots of slow/no weight-gain stories on there. I know how stressful it is, good luck

My ds is 10 months and 15lb 11oz. He has seen the paed and dietician. No blood test were done yet as paed thought he looked fine and in proportion so said he would just do another check up in 3 months. Dietician suggested whats seashells did, formula in everything, mashed potato, butter etc etc

As seashells said though, they don't advise you on how to get them to eat it! He is doing ok with the food, but won't eat all the dieticians suggestions. I think he's just meant to be small. He sleeps through and is very jolly and full of energy so must be getting enough?!

I wouldn't worry about the paed, if you do have to see one they'll most likely just confirm lo is OK

he's probably having a growth spurt
