when did your dc start holding their bottle?

just wondering cos my dd is 6 months and was wondering if she should be starting to hold her bottle.

She might never hold her bottle - it's all about feeling snuggly so she may reach a hand out and pat the bottle or stroke it.

But may never decide to hold it!

Dd1 held the bottle at 12 months
Dd2 was 5 months

Got a 9 month old and he feeds himself his bottle at night-time as he gets grumpy waiting for his big brother to get out of the bath but he's only being doing that fairly recently!

Never. DS could eat with cutlery but I was still holding his bottle. I perfected bf newborn baby whilst holding DS's bottle for him.

Awww - you holding the bottle while the baby plays with your fingers is one of the loveliest things about bottle-feeding a baby

You can do away with holding altogether if you use Playtex liners though - can you still get those? Once you've squeezed all the air out they can still be sucked on effectively while dangling out of a toddler's mouth

About 10 weeks I think, although not every time. Always made sure I held it too, just in case....

Ds1 (bottle fed until 12 months old) never did.

Ds2 (6 months) doesn't.

Both held/hold my fingers instead.

About 10 weeks-shes now 19 weeks and holds it very sturdy if we let her.

My ds COULD hold his own bottle by about 5 months but never really wanted more than a few ounces if he held it himself. He's 12 months now and still I hold him laying down and feed him like a tiny baby. Don't forget that feeding to a baby is not only to stop hunger but also for comfort. I love cuddling my ds and feeding him, 'tis gorgeous!

DD is 7 months and will hold hers quite happily. Actuaally I think she prefers it! Still try and hold it for her at night when she is tired tho - she tends to nod off and bottle ends up on the floor lol

DD is 19mo and I still hold her night-time bottle! Must be comfort thing as she won't let me feed her during the day, and is very good with spoons and forks and holding cups etc - just sees the bottle holding bit as my job I guess!

20 months!

12 months and I thought she couldn't. Then I found her drinking an unfinished bottle from the previous night and holding it all on her own...

dd still lies back and puts both hands behind her head when she has her bottle - she is 14mo! She can hold it - not sure when she started, but she doesn't want to!

You can get handle things that go on a bottle if you want to encourage holding?

Cant remember exactly when DD started holding it, it was probably around 7 months. Now at 12 months she can do it one handed. Currently she is being weaned off her bottle and onto a cup.

DD is 16mo and doesn't hold her bottle. She holds her cup, obviously, but not her bottle.

mummy87 - I feel the same as you. Love our bedtime and morning cuddles with the bottle.

Never! Went straight to a beaker and held that instead

SIL thinks it some great party trick that all her dcs did so by between 6 and 8 months. Personally I think its really sad to see a bub plonked in a chair, alone swigging from a bottle . Milk should come with cuddles imo

DD1 never ever held hers ... love the 'milk should come with cuddles' line

18/19mths, though my ds is SN. I was getting tired of having to stop in the street to give him a drink - people would look at such a large child who couldn't hold his own bottle (he was big, still is!).

have decided that even if my dd could hold her bottle i would still do it. just love the cuddles to much
