Hi My name is Emma and we have 3 children aged 10 6 and 15 months, Our youngest daughter Charlotte, is nearly 16 months now, she does not turn over, sit up, crawl, weight bear with her legs, etc etc, she can sit up unaided and has good hand dexterity, and seems fine in her mental development.

She knows her legs are there but they are very flexible and she can pull her legs up straight over her head, and when she sits she can do the splits.

When she gets excited, her hands and legs twiddle about in little circles and she flaps her arms up and down.

Are these any symptoms of hypotonia, or could it be something else?

Many thanks and we are from the UK.

Emma

Emma that sounds certainly as if she has extraordinary flexibility - not in a good way really.

My DS1 was a late walker (by which I mean 17mo so in NT parameters) and he has a hip that extends a lot further than it should (or something) - even now (9yo) he is a bit unco-ordinaeted.

Anyway; have you been to GP about yr DD? because I would say deffo do.

Crawling is neither here nor there as you prob know, but if she is not weight bearing at 15mo then that's a worry.

There may be a problem with hip joints, or it may be hypotonia, or there may be physio that can help, but I would certainly get it cheked out.

You may get several people posting that their DC didn't walk till they were 20 mo etc etc, but I still think you should seek medical advice.

i would get her checked out if she cannot turn over, definitely. My dd has hypotonia and physio has been immensely helpful.

okay so I come to you all for some help!!! Apparently tests can not find the answer so I am looking for those who have been there done that and can guide me with advice. My daughter was born 12 weeks premature. She had no surgeries or anything really traumatic besides needing much more time to develop! She is 19months old now and is still not holding her head up. There for obviously not crawling, walking, or talking. We have had an MRI done came back normal, we have had and EEG came back normal, several blood tests done came back normal and recently had a spinal tap done to check for a neurotransmitter defect and guess what....yep that came back normal also! When we hear normal we are suppose to get excited but I am getting to the point that I wish something would just come back with answers! Why can my 19 month old not hold her head up? The genetisis is waiting to diagnose her with hyptonia cerbal palsy so I come to you for answers!
