After-School Activities, how old?

Hiya,

Ds starts school in Sept, and will be 5 next Feb.

Thinking of a sport activities (either football or rugby, probably rugby though) which runs once a week after school in a local leisure centre but we're not too sure if he is to young.

Do your dc do afterschool activities, and if so, how old were they when they started.

Also, for things like gymnastics or ballet, how old should be dd be before she goes (she is 3 in Sept).

wait till half term then reassess. He is likely to be very tired.

Not sure about your Ds as my DD is starting school in sept, so I've yet to see. My DD1 started ballet at 2 1/2 (but it was a relaxed class - mostly prancing around pretending to be fairies and that sort of thing... some classes can be very strict, so I probably wouldn't have started my daughter at one of those until she was older) and my DD2 is starting gymnastics at 22 months. It is a class where children do it with the mums but is fairly laid back and again the emphasis is on the fun. HTH

Reception tires them out like you wouldn't believe.
There was another thread about this with DDs, most people seem to start trying formal organised activities around 3yo, but some chidlren not really ready until 6 or older.
